I can't believe that here is still no montage or anything out there. I would really love to listen to clear versions of the tunes
Me neither! Why does Dan Mumford hate the anoraks?

Nah, it's only been a year since they last changed it. Probably another year or two to go.

Guys, not to piss on the bonfire here, but... it's over.

I did drop him a DM from the @SaveGregChris account and he said he was staying at Newsbeat but just giving up on-air duties. He's the best they've got, he'll be missed for sure.

Right. Well. That's the end of that then.

And the last song...
Nice For What by Drake. Hm.

Fiona just said that Grimmy is getting a new producer - hopefully it’s not Chris Sawyer and he’s going to Breakfast with Greg!
Sounds like it's Travis and Liam producing.

This show is making me more certain that it wasn’t Grimmy’s choice to leave breakfast. Some of the things he is saying are interesting...
Like "after that link no wonder the Radio 1 bosses decided it was time to freshen things up a bit" or whatever he said after Sinead replayed the camel chat?

Okay, a slightly clickbaity title. But here it goes: not moving to the breakfast show with Greg, the picture on the website being briefly changed and then changed back, having worked at Radio 1 for ten years, seven of those reading the afternoon news. And this...
So it could be one of several things:
1) They're announcing Greg's start date and that Chris Smith WILL be joining him after all.
2) He's being promoted to an off-air role so it's his last Newsbeat.
3) He's leaving Newsbeat so it's his last Newsbeat.
Intriguing...

Just me, apparently. Music's good today - best of the last six years. Fiona's back, but not Matt Fincham or Ian.
And there's an interview with him in today's Mirror. https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/nick-grimshaw-reveals-leaving-radio-13053666

So who's up then?

Just wondered where we're all at with our Radio 1 listening career and how it started.
I'm 19 so I've got a while to go until I'm too old, and I've been listening since 2009. Radio 1 was always on in the barber shop I used to go to, and when I got given a radio in my bedroom Radio 1 was the only station I knew that played chart music. The rest is history. I started listening at around the same time they were experimenting with live streams of The Chris Moyles Show so that probably played a part in my transformation to radio nerd.
Anyone else?

I know I shouldn't be surprised by this sort of thing by now...
...but MY GOD they're playing a lot of music. Basically every time they play a song it's two or three in a row.

A surprising number of people requesting "highlights" of Grimmy's breakfast show. Which goes to show two things:
1) most of the stuff being requested is from 2012-15, proving that literally nothing memorable happened for HALF this breakfast show's life
2) There are actually people out there who LIKED this breakfast show. It's easy to forget, and difficult to understand.

(also not having any significant features, games or bond with listeners).
I've been thinking about this a lot, and I think there's something in it. The thing Alice Levine lacks as a radio presenter is a bond with the audience. I can't put my finger on why - maybe it's the regular absences, maybe it's the sarcastic and slightly cutting sense of humour. But you never quite feel like she's talking to you in the same way you do with Greg, or Scott, or Dev, or Matt, or Grimmy. Weird. But sadly I think she's brought that over to the show with Dev - it now feels a bit more insular with him than when he's by himself. I'm not sure why - I like double acts and zoo formats in general. There's just something that doesn't feel quite right with her. I miss Dev's solo shows.

There's also a trail for Grimmy airing now that includes a bit of one of his old beds from the 2012 package.
-
I hope there's some big bells and whistles opening. Grimmy's was just the normal theme music and a link. This is the standard I'm expecting from Greg... (if you've never heard this before, listen to it - all five minutes!)

Just heard the first trail for the Greg James breakfast show! It wasn't long, the only words were "change is coming".
Despite all the Chris Smith bullshit, got me very excited ngl.

On Monday 13th August, Scott is taking the ropes, probably until Greg takes over. On the schedule it says “Scott and Chrus sit in for Grimmy.”
But by then, Grimmy is gone.
Could just be temporary/automatic and might be changed nearer to the time. I may have completely imagined this, but I think in 2012 for a time the schedule said "The Scott Mills Breakfast Show with Scott!" before it was changed to the more tame "Scott Mills". But like I said, this may be a complete figment of my imagination.

To mark the end of The Chris Moyles Show, they did a live show in front of a studio audience amongst other things.
To mark the end of The Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw... They're having a Rita Ora co-host. No, really.
A (half) week of co-hosts - Rita Ora on Monday, Alan Carr on Tuesday, Maisie Williams on Wednesday and nobody on Thursday.

Just wondered whether anyone had any thoughts on Dev and Alice's drivetime cover. It's not bad, but there's something about it that just doesn't feel quite right. I can't quite put my finger on it - it might be that the whole thing seems very pre-planned, in a way that Greg's show never did. Could do with a bit more spontaneity imo, and maybe a couple of regular features.
Any other thoughts?

Schedule still says Grimmy on Monday 20th. Also no induction thus far as to whether he starts at 6 or 6:30. And both Adele and Scott are off that week. Whilst I'm very pleased I'm not on holiday when it launches (cheers Greg) it's a bit of a weird date to do it. I guess they want to give it a couple of weeks to bed in before people go back to school.
