  1. What I'm wondering now is when WILL there be new news jingles? It's been three years, and they're sounding boring (don't know if it's wishful thinking, but I did notice they didn't use many of the regular news beds on the 5:45 Newsbeat the other day). They need a remix at least.
  2. Haha, I remember them playing out clips once. It sounded messy, but it was hilarious! Entertaining radio, which Ally McCrae's shout outs and music show was not.
  3. Another problem is there's very little variation in the presenter ID's anyway, there's only about two different ones for each so they get boring very quickly. Other weird observations, Dev never seems to play the ones with his name on, just the generic "BBC Radio 1" ones. I like the "You're listening to the Matt Edmondson Show on BBC Radio 1" ones Matt has, but he barely uses them anymore anyway. They give his show a more distinctive sound.
  4. Greg never uses them, but I can't remember a time when he has, and neither does Grimmy because he's got his own imaging (but it seems a bit strange that there would be none of the station sound on either of the flagship shows). I think Matt Edmondson plays them every half hour, as do Scott and Dev. I still find it weird that they wouldn't put on the new ones, they've paid for them after all. I hope they're not phasing them out, they're good (but I did love the 1tros, was never so keen on the 1maging). But if they are, what would they be replacing them with? I haven't seen any invitations for bids on the BBC Commissioning website, and at any rate, they should get new news jingles before another new sweeper package! I'm bored of the current ones, they were average to start with, but they're really boring me after 3 years! Get some new more exciting ones, or at least remix the old ones to make them more funky and edgy. I remember a time (not really, but I know it used to be the case) when there would be new news jingles every year! Ah well... Maybe in my anoraky dreams...
  5. I know what you mean. As strange as this sounds, I always think of how a DJ introduces the news as a measure of how slick they are generally. E.g. Scott is clearly the best, Greg's pretty good too. Dev, Huw Grimmy and Fearne are be okay, but they rarely hit the vocal. Matt Edmondson always makes it sound clunky (I remember one particularly funny incident when he'd actually done it quite well, except he'd gone a minute early!), Gemma is just awful (but she's awful generally). Moyles was always a news introducing god "...coming up after George with the news, it's 3:30". For some reason it really gets my tits up when they refer to it as "Radio 1 Newsbeat" and don't bother giving a time check, just "the news" sounds much more natural, Newsbeat is the 15 minute programme! And that, my dear UMers, is my strange obsession with DJ news introductions. Amen.
  6. He's at Chris Cox's (his producer/ sidekick on the Wednesday night show) stag do.
  7. I heard Ally McCrae today- I like his voice, but didn't think much of the show. He didn't know what he was doing at all, no real content, and he was struggling to fill links. He was just resorting to reading off shout outs and information about the music (although Phil Taggarts sit ins aren't much better!). Plus he completely ballsed up going into the 10:30 news, which amused me ;-) The 11:30 was better, but he went too early so there was a few seconds of silence, he'd got the hang of it by the 12:30. Was he called in at the last minute, so didn't have time to prepare anything?
  8. Five minutes later or five minutes earlier?
  9. Edith Bowman......................... WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I'm also wondering why Danny Howard starts at five to six on the Friday- that's during the news! Other thoughts- Zane and Dev seems like a strange pairing; cool and excitable Zane presenting with professionally ropey Dev, but could be funny, Grimmy and Dev are good together, and it's a shame Scott has to present with Jameela and Gemma, him and Greg would be way better (I'm assuming Greg is doing the BBC3 coverage instead?).
  10. I still think Huw and Chris have a better chemistry than when Matt Edmondson is on- at least Huw can talk naturally with Chris, as opposed to Matt when it always sounds very stilted and forced. Even if Huw is boring, at least it isn't awkward like it is with Matt.
  11. No, it makes sense for Grimmy to be off if nobody else from the regular line up is on (although I do hate that Bank Holidays are always a bit half arsed on Radio 1- I'd just like everyone to carry on and do their shows as normal). I don't like Dev's cover shows either- he never seems to put much effort into them (although most of his recent cover has been weekend/bank holiday, when it's the B Team anyway). I'm looking forward to him in for Greg on Wednesday though- some cover on a normal weekday where he can actually do a proper show instead of just short links between records.
  12. Ta for that, maybe Jono wants to put it in the archive?
  13. The Mills: Oh! What's Occuring? 02 Apr 12 one that's missing from the archive.
  14. Does anybody have the podcast in question that they want to upload?
  15. Why would R1 choose not to air all of the sweepers from a package they've paid for? It seems to make very little sense, and is poor value for money. Even from the updates the did play on air, I'm sure there are ones I've never heard before.
  16. Love Alice on RONR as well, it's obvious she listens to the show and is a fan. Its a shame they stopped inviting Matt Edmondson on Fridays though, he's way better than Danny Howard.
  17. Okay, so it's the UM Archive that's wrong.
  18. This is how it is on the archive: Friday 30 March: Last drivetime show, no podcast released Monday 2 April: First afternoon show, Friday's podcast released Tuesday 3 April: Second afternoon show, Tuesday's podcast released Can that be right, with no podcast for Monday 2 April?
  19. Since were talking about zoo formats (and apparently Scott doesn't have one), I've always wondered why Cara or Chris Sawyer don't speak on air- I can understand why they wouldn't want to replace Beccy immediately, but after a year I thought Cara would've built up an on air presence. Maybe they wouldn't want two Chris' on the same show, but Sawyer seems to be quite funny, I'd like to hear more from both of them.
  20. Well they kinda have- Nick Grimshaw has Matt Fincham, Ian and Fiona (whatever happened to that other woman, LMC?), Scott has Chris, and Greg has Chris Smith With the News, and Pippa. If they're not zoo format shows, what is?
  21. That's because Tina's not really a part of Grimmy's team- she might have been if R1 hadn't been so intent at the start on not creating a zoo format show, but now it's too late to suddenly get her involved. Although, when they did AAA, I was watching the webcam and she seems to go and sit in their studio between bulletins, just not talk outside of the news so much. With Chris Smith it would be different because he's always been involved with Greg's show.
  22. Oh yeah, I didn't think of that. Although I don't know what his personal circumstances are, I think being off the rest of the week's a bit much. I reckon he'll be back tomorrow or Thursday.
  23. If he's the main face of Newsbeat, do you think he'd go with Greg if he ever got breakfast? He is arguably the key to Greg's recent success, so it wouldn't be the same without him. If he did do breakfast, he could still be the main face of Newsbeat- just doing 06:30-12:45 instead of 12:45-17:45, and if anything, it would make more sense. There are many more bulletins in the morning anyway, even though he wouldn't do the 17:45.
  24. I was pleasantly surprised to hear Dev this morning- the show was great and very entertaining (hope Nick feels okay though). I was wondering why it was Dev though- it made sense that other time he did the show, because he was doing Early Breakfast so could just stay on. Seeing as he wasn't in already, why did they call him instead of Scott or Greg? (Saying that, thank goodness it wasn't Gemma!) I would quite like to hear Greg covering the breakfast show at some point, to see what it would be like permanently.
  25. No, I've already got that one. Is it a mistake on here then, or was there not a podcast that day for whatever reason?
