  1. Still disagree. Lets not forget that Chris isn't a presenter and has absolutely no experience of presenting apart from his student radio days- he was literally just Scott's mate who was brought onto the show because Scott thought he'd be good on-air. It's a whole new ballpark to present a daytime show on a national radio station and Chris has no experience even at local or regional commercial level. And cmon Clara is still an excellent presenter and far better than many out there- if Chris did do a solo show, I think you'd realise just how easy someone like Clara makes it sound.
  2. Ehhh no. Chris isn't a presenter, he's a sidekick. Scott was running late one day and Chris did the first half an hour and was decent but I definitely don't have much desire to hear him do a show himself. Being a good sidekick to Scott is a whole different world away from presenting a show. Haha no, every user on the site gets a DJ name as a "status".
  3. Alice is in for Scott this Thursday and Friday.
  4. Very little fuss will be made apart from some special features, giveaways and maybe some throwback Live Lounges (Radio 1 launched on the 30th of September so maybe a special Live Lounge for the end of Live Lounge Month). In truth, though, most listeners won't care that the station is 50 years old- of course it'd be great to get Moyles, Cox, Whiley etc back on to reminisce and play old tunes but it's not what the majority of the audience would be that bothered about IMO, sure it'd be great if it happened but personally can't see it. I would love a day of ditching the playlist and playing just the biggest songs Radio 1 have played over the years- I love when they do those days of counting down special lists (Top 150 songs of the decade one of them was I think). It's good fun, allows songs which are brilliant but don't get played often to be on and the presenters usually love those sort of shows.
  5. I actually like it the way it is. Sorry to say but the chart has become pretty much irrelevant for me and I suspect many others nowadays. It just doesn't have the same buzz or excitement it used to. I also think streaming being included has devalued the number 1- we've only had 2 number 1s in 3 months or something (Shape of You and Rockabye)- boring. Radio-wise, I miss Greg's normal Friday show. I'd much rather have Feet Up Friday back than listen to the chart. I also love Dance Anthems and tune in especially for that at 6- great show, sounds huge and is perfect for the weekend. That slot has traditionally been like that too (Ready for the Weekend and Floorfillers with Scott (whoooo)). I suggested it at the time and I'd favour it moving to Clara's slot, it gets nearly 3 hours like before but doesn't clog up one of the main personality shows. Greg's one of the best Chart presenters but I feel he's wasted doing it- Clara was good and a huge upgrade on Jameela in the time she did it on Sundays. I do miss the Reggie Yates Sunday 4pm days though if I'm honest- the chart belongs there and Reggie was perfect as a presenter (and Scott used to be the main cover which was always a nice surprise on a Sunday). Anyway, times have changed
  6. This has been annoying me- one of the great things about RONR is the banter between Scott, Chris and the DJ and the flow of the game. It has the potential to be one of the funniest things on Radio 1 when they're on top form and the facts are funny. Stopping after 1 fact to play a song we've heard countless times is pointless and ruins the flow. It's happened a few times where they've only done 2 facts. Such a shame, especially now that they have such a good line-up with Greg on Mondays, Charlie Sloth on Tuesdays, Alice on Thursdays and Cel on Friday. They all have the potential to be hilarious and have been great the last few weeks, just drop the song in the middle and go back to 4 facts!
  7. I did hear that idea where Scott leaves two listeners on the phone together and they have to awkwardly chat to each other like they're on a date on Will Manning's show first tbf. Anyway, it happens all the time in the radio industry where ideas are "borrowed"
  8. It's not that simple. Grimmy is actually doing a good job when you take a step back. He's exactly the sort of presenter they need on breakfast to attract younger audiences and, whatever we may think of him, he appeals to them. "Grimmy Loses More Listeners But Listening Among Young People Across The Board Is Actually Down" isn't quite so catchy as a headline. Moyles had more listeners, yes. But a lot of his listeners were over 25 and part of a generation who grew up with Radio 1 and listening to the radio as a habit- it was a main source of entertainment and music. Grimmy was basically told by Ben Cooper (who was put under huge pressure by the BBC Trust to lower the average listener age) to ditch those loyal over 25s and focus on the 16-24 demographic. That generation has YouTube, Spotify, Buzzfeed, Facebook, Instagram, the list goes on- while they're on those sites/apps, they're probably not listening to the radio. Radio 1 is in a constant fight to attract them by going where they are and using video/ social media etc to get them to listen. The fact that Grimmy has added so many young listeners is quite an achievement IMO. I'm not saying he's one of my favourite presenters on the station (he's not, I think Scott and Greg are much better and would prefer them on breakfast) but if I was Ben Cooper, I'd be struggling to find a major reason to get rid of him right now. Suggest people give this a read : http://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/mythbusting-radio-1-losing-500000-listeners-half-story-1971412 . It's balanced, fair and provides some good insight into where radio aimed at young people is going and how Radio 1 will likely be shaping it.
  9. You do realise anyone can log in and change that? Can we please not start threads based on Wikipedia changes and no substance whatsoever? It doesn't mean anything and is usually bull.
  10. He's good but not as funny as Chappers or Beccy were (the Laura era was before my R1 listening time!)
  11. Well firstly, he doesn't work for BBC News so the need to be balanced isn't as important and the things he posts on social media are to try and make positive cases to his followers as well as being funny so can't see anything wrong with that. Not like he's slagging off Theresa May or being really political- it's his private account anyway. Secondly, I would put money on Greg not being the new Capital Breakfast host. I'd say it'll be Will Manning or Roman Kemp- two brilliant presenters Capital already have who would be perfect for the target audience and would fit in with George and Lilah. Greg's style is just SO different to Capital- his games, features, chats with Chris Smith, use of language and expression etc wouldn't go with the Capital style. He has so much freedom on Radio 1, gets to do other things like Children in Need, the Gregathlon and has been allowed to take the BT Sport cricket job (if he took Capital Breakfast, he'd have to quit the cricket job because most of it's in the middle of the night). And of course, he's probably next in line for the Radio 1 Breakfast Show. Really can't see it happening
  12. What are you on about? The new imaging sounds slick, modern and professional, don't know what there is to complain about
  13. I doubt it. Korean Billy was an internet thing so he's fair game for other presenters to use- he wasn't an original Mills idea like Timmy Trendy, for example. I'd imagine it's more the rip-offs of Innuendo Bingo they do on Australian radio, in particular. Yeah might have been a slight dig at their old producer Will Foster, who's arrival on the breakfast show coincided with the introduction of the rip-off of Bangers, funnily enough! There was also the thing with Matt Edmondson but I think that was a deliberate on-air thing.
  14. I wish they'd just get on with it and change everything properly. I like the old 4 voiceovers but having a mish-mash between them and the new ones just sounds messy. Not a fan of the 1Xtra-sounding male tbh- really liking Mike Wooller, the original New Music Friday female VO and the other female VO (the one on the Little Mix-Touch power intro). They're all sounding great. I do miss Scott's personal beds- the one that went "Scott Mills-1" with Merv and then a dancey bed was great and the other one that said "This is Scott Mills, BBC Radio 1" and then a heavier, grimier(?) bed was great too. Gonna miss them in the 1:15 link. I think the KDA-Turn the Music Louder power intro (was on Scott's show at 3:36 today) is my favourite- sounds SO good.
  15. It sounds terrible. Seems they're going down the route of "This is Capital from Global", "From Global's newsroom" etc. Don't see the need for the BBC to do it, especially now that their charter has been renewed so there's no real need for a marketing push with the public.
  16. I know, it's kinda funny they're still on but there's no real need to change them- the jingles still sound good and they're two of the best voiceovers Radio 1 have had IMO.
  17. I think this sums it up pretty well. R1 don't want that slot to be personality-driven in the same way Grimmy, Greg and Scott's shows are. It's at a time when people want to hear music while they're out and about or at work and it's billed as such. I remember seeing a thing where Fearne's producer was talking about the Playlist Team at the station and that the producer of that show sits on the team to decide the station's playlist as well as having more "free picks" than the other daytime shows to play new music/ alternative stuff. It's a a show to showcase what the station is about musically and it has the Live Lounge and plays more new music. The bosses probably don't want long games, links or features. If I listen to Clara's show to be entertained, I'll probably be a bit let down but she's a good presenter for what the slot is. I do think it wouldn't kill them to do a bit more listener interaction- chat to listeners, do one short game or music news or something. Used to always like when Alice sat in as she'd do funny listener interaction things but what Clara's show is now probably suits the slot.
  18. The DJs have complete control of how loud the bed is- it plays off a fader and they can bring it up and down as they like. Dev clearly just didn't like the particular bed and found it distracting to talk over.
  19. Just heard a Live Lounge trail on Cel's show with the new voiceovers and there was an "Official Chart of the Year" sting on Dev's show the other day with the new male voiceover. Most of the beds now have new IDs on them now too. Surely it would make sense to launch it properly tomorrow for the new year, the launch of "Jan Slam" and the arrival of Mistajam. Having said that, the changeover of voices has taken so long and been so all over the place that I'm not sure- also seems weird to launch a new sound when the schedule's changed around and the two flagship show presenters are off. We shall see....
  20. It's a great idea for a show and will be perfect on Christmas Eve. They were talking about it today and there was a bit of a pause when Scott said "we'll be here on Christmas Eve" which made me think it'll be pre-recorded but I don't know. I imagine they'll do maybe 2/3 callers, 1 Radio 1/1Xtra DJ and maybe a celebrity per hour doing the traditional format of choosing between two songs and then the rest of each hour will be just Christmas songs, some straight-up bangers from a few years ago and maybe Scott and Chris' favourite bangers from the year. I can't imagine them doing 6 hours of live radio on Christmas Eve but if the news has to be introduced live etc, then they might. Or maybe 1-4 live and then 4-7 pre-recorded or something.
  21. Thanks for putting that together- interesting to see. Seems to be that the breakfast show is the one show that's live on Christmas Day unless it's a Chart day, in which instance that's live. Disappointing that this year breaks such a long streak of Greg/Scott doing Christmas Day Breakfast: that list also shows that it doesn't matter what day it falls on, maybe neither of them wanted to do it
  22. A Radio Today article about it : http://radiotoday.co.uk/2016/12/radio-1-expands-song-intros-across-its-output/ And this has gone up on IMGR's Soundcloud. Some great work in here, still bits of the old voices in there which makes me think they could still hang around for a while, just not as prominent as the new voices.
  23. Errr maybe they're entitled to time off with their friends and families at Christmas like anyone else? Working in radio isn't a walk in the park- it's still a job and doing a show takes a lot of planning, preparation and dedication. A lot of the presenters aren't from London either so I'd imagine they're back in their home towns maybe instead of hanging around Broadcasting House.
  24. Bit disappointing how little live content there is. Can't remember the last time we didn't have the weekend/cover DJs live in the gap between Christmas and New Year (used to love Sara Cox doing it). Those shows are always really relaxed and fit in well. Scott & Chris not on Christmas Breakfast is a huge letdown. Loved them doing it the last few years- great show baubles deep in Christmas music and the brilliant features they'd do like opening on-air the presents they have to each other's mums! Gonna miss it. Looking forward to the Christmas Bangers show though. I would've gone : 04:00 - Nick Bright or Yasser or Jordan North 06:30 - Scott & Chris 10:00 - Adele Roberts 13:00 - Matt Edmondson or Jordan North or Alice Levine 16:00 - Dev or Alice Levine 19:00 - Best of Annie Mac (Mon-Wed) ; Best of Glastonbury (Thurs) 21:00 - Radio 1's Review of the Year (Mon) ; Radio 1 Stories Repeat (Tues) ; Surgery Christmas Special (Wed) ; Radio 1's Movie Show (Thurs) 22:00 - Phil Taggart or Sophie Little
  25. Matt talked about the incident in a bit of detail at around 11:15 on Sunday
