Mark Goodier onto the Chart Show! Bring back the good old chart show days!

I heard a brief snip of Sara in for Edith today on my way to work and decided to listen again when I got home. I have to say she is wasted in her current show! The Lie In just doesnt suit her, the show format isnt right for free flowing random style which is so much fun to listen to! And its pre-recorded - she sounded completely different live! She deserves a more high profile show, and a regular slot! Why wasnt she given either Jo's or Edith show - its a crime!!! Over the years my opinions of her have changed so much! Back when she first started many moons ago on the Surgery i wasnt that keen, but by the time she reached Weekend Afternoons i couldnt get enough! I want more Sara!

honestly it depends on what they where replaced with! I can see Greg on drive in a few years, but I cant see Scott on Breakfast permanently, and I think he will be a Radio 2 candidate over Moyles! When moyles leaves breakfast I think he will take some time out and maybe do more TV work before returning to radio - for him there is nothing quite as big as R1 Breakfast so I dont think he would go any where straight away! Replacing him will be difficult but I think it will be a new "BIG" signing for the station not an internal move!

I think sadly that coxy might just go first - I think she is probably what Radio 2 are looking for as they try to add a more diverse/risque line-up. She would fit easily into a nice weekend slot. And even 6 music. I think weekend breakfast will fit nicely with Ediths new family commitments and maybe it is time that an experienced presenter took on this role of a show that hasnt held a presenter for longer than 6 months recently! Jo wont leave, I cant see her in that slot for long, but she wont go - she is radio 1 through and through and despite being older than the target audience she is good at what she does. MAybe her show had gone as far it could in the weekday slot. I agree with Jono - chart show/request show should be given to an older presenter - Maybe this would have suited Jo nicely as its all about the music! Reggie then in an fternoon slot might have been a bit more entertaining.

Fearne would be better without it - people will be comparing her to Jo and if she is to last in that slot then she needs to re-invent the who show! Jo needs to take it with her as it is her! What else can you see her talking about? It will give her weekend shows an edge over the other stations! Im looking forward to weekends on radio 1 now - its a good line up to be honest - better than the mish mash we have had the last 2 years or so! It hasnt been the same since coxy left that 1-4 slot and vernon dropped to 1 show a week!

Is she coming back to Scotts show? Not heard on Radio 1 since she went on maternity ages and ages ago! She didnt come back to her old job of Newsbeat presenter did she!

I think I may find myself tuning away from Radio One and into my local stations! I wanted new talent, not just a shuffle around! Despite this I think the thing to take away is that the weekend line up is now quite strong. As much as I didnt like Ediths afternoon show, she may actually be just what I want at that time of the morning, and Jo's show imo will translate quite well to a weekday afternoon (I think she should just take her whole show and not change it). Weekdays is a worry. While you have Chris and Scott holding down the main shows the three shows around them just dont have enough appeal. Greg is great, but really at that time of the afternoon - the slot is not right, and is too close to scott. I think that they want him on breakfast or drive in a few years and are worried that if they leave him on earlies he will get offered something else. They have replaced him with Dev when this space should have gone to new talent! Dev is already established within Radio1/1xtra and had only just been given weekend breakfast. Fearne on at that time is a big mistake - she shoudl have had Edith show if they wanted her on daytimes. Sara Cox is without a doubt the only DJ currently at the station to be able to step into jo's show, make it her own without alienating Jo's loyal followers, and she done a great job covering her maternity. The shake up does leave the question of cover a bit wide open. I cant see Greg doing as much cover now, and Dev wont be brought onto daytimes just yet. Edith and Jo certainly wont be covering daytimes now, and so Reggie may be the only option, along with maybe annie and nick now and then. Hopefully this is where they will utilize Sara as she has that instantly likeable appeal in any slot! I think that Radio 1 is now entering a transitional few years where we will see the whole face of the station and its identity changed.

I cant imagine that many of the presenters are either happ or comfortable with these changes. I think Moyles will be gone after this next year he has signed for, and I dont think Scott will move to breakfast. It will prob become the Fearne Cotton Breakfast SHow!

As chris and dave are both freelance, who pays for vernon to cover the show when chris takes a day off (like on Monday). Does the BBC cover this, or does Chris arrange the cover and pay vernon that way? I like vernon on breakfast, and am enjoying the way we are getting to hear him more. As much as I like scott his place is on afternoons - Vernon is definately the way forward for covering chris I think.

The current schedule has been like this too long! Im getting tired of it and really hope that they make some big changes in the next schedule shake up as the last few have just been too little. Im not liking how they are making small changes throughout the year now too! Sara Cox deserves her own show during the week. And I think they should bring in Lauren Laverne from 6 music and swap her with Jo if she doesnt go to Radio 4! Send Edith to the weekends in Nihals slot. Radio 1 is sounding a bit tired during the day - tune in for breakfast, and for my drive home but during the day in the office ill listen to local radio.

What do we think about Vernon becoming a regular cover for Chris? This is the second time now and its unusual as Scott usually gets this gig with Greg doing the afternnon.

I like nihal - im just not sure when I want to listen to him. In my opinion im not sure he is right for Weekend afternoons, and not sure about him on Weekend breakfast. Its weird, i enjoy listening to him, but he isnt someone I go out of my way to listen to. For example when Coxy was on weekend afternoons I would go out of my way listen as it was entertaining. Nihal in that slot is just an "easy listen" doesnt make you want to turn on or tune out. I think he would have been better maybe taking over colin and grimmy taking weekend afternoons.

im thinking maybe weekend breakfast once grimmy moves to colins show - timings are right! Shame - my ideal person in this role would be Rob da Bank and not another kids presenter! Someone with some credibility! I remember a few years ago R1 was all about new music - now its all about young listeners!

I dont believe that Sara is going to be on only once a week - she is either going to be moved to a weekday or bigger weekend slot, or will be holiday cover and we will hear her popping up everywhere! I hope Zane stays but if he does go like someone predicted then Colin should take his place, and if it wasnt for her family that would be a great slot for Jo, but i feel someone like Rob Da bank could take it which is just as good! Who knows about the mills and moyles thing - but if either does go i think we can expect a the usual attempt to keep the listeners by bringing in a big personality to front the shows rather than looking at what they already have or searching for new talent!

i heard him covering annie mac on friday night, and really liked him - gonna listen to his regular show now

xmas schedule is actually quite good - im glad theyve mixed it up a bit and added a few different things.

i agree, christmas on rado 1 has been pretty drab over the last few yeas. At the very least i want live shows, not just repeats of the stuff from the last year!

If moyles did leave breakfast, what would he go? is there a show big enough for him? I think the only reason he would leave is if something bigger came along, and right now i dont think there is a show quite as big as the radio 1 breakfast show. Maybe once channel 4 get their radio output into gear.......
