I'm not quite sure how Channel 4 are going to square the loss of Carphone Warehouse's sponsorship with just carrying on like nothing has happened. Thats a significant chunk of revenue gone.

True - but I would prefer to say exposed the nature of a section of today's Britain. I for one do not purport to be represented by Jade Goodey, Danielle-the-WAG or Jo O'Whateverhappenedtomycareera. And from what I see on here, and elsewhere, neither would vast number of young, bright, educated and reasonable people. There is undoubtedly a social element in Britain today which is represented here, but to suggest that it is all of us is wrong.

Maybe its just me - but all the Patricks I know are yummy and flirtatious and fun! But, I hasten to add, not as yummy and fun as my beloved husband :biggrin: !

From what I can gather, the actual behaviour itself is not particularly racist. What seems to be in question is whether the motivation for the behaviour is racism. Hitting someone isn't a racist act, but hitting someone because they are black is, if you see what I mean. Its hard for me to tell because I don't watch the actual programme, but every time we are soaked in the "news" from it on the radio, in the papers, on the news, so it is easy to keep up with what is going on. But - it seems to me that there have been similar situations with aggressive bullying-type behaviour in every series of BB or CBB there has been. Why is it only now that these actions are being looked at in the light of racism? And how do you pin down "racism" in this - or any other - context? As Germaine Greer said in her article, its ok to call her "Aussie" (even though she is from New Zealand), because there is nothing seen as wrong with Aussieness. But it is wrong to call someone "Paki" (even if they are from Pakistan) - so the inference is that there IS something wrong with being Pakistani. I am not sure that it is possible to proscribe and legislate for this type of "racism". You can legally proscribe someone's actions, and their published words, but you can't proscribe thoughts, feelings and opinions. So if Channel 4 and Endemol are going to manufacture and broadcast for profit a situation where people's thoughts, feelings and opinions are going to be expressed and demonstrated, perhaps no-one should be surprised at the result. Or perhaps they should just stop doing it, and get back to making proper television programes. Please.

And I am jealous of you, too. Grrr.

WHAT? Whats has she done? I heard her getting all emotional about silly things earlier (very funny) and that she had a baby names book but I thought it was a joke, and now I have a computer with broken sound and I can't listen....someone tell me whats happening! The bits of the show I heard earlier were hilarious though.
