DC got a reaction from thebeuter in Will there be a schedule shakeup in September?
Too old for Radio 1 now, plus I can't imagine them putting Skepta and Stormzy on par with Jesus, like seems to be written into the Radio 1 DJ's contracts. (They'll both be like Goldie Lookin Chain in a decade btw)

They made a great pairing 10 years back though, I'd put them on par with Mark & Lard but only about as half as close.

The record of the week feature had been going years, Scott used to have it on his old 4-7 timeslot, even going as far back as Mark & Lard they used to champion groups like Radiohead and Kings of Leon (before Sex on Fire) on ROTW. It's better than track of the day, granted the DJ's have actually had a say in picking their choice.

You can't rely on the younger generation to fill the void though. People 10 - 15 years younger than me do exactly as stated above, use technology to get what music they want when they want. They don't understand what a radio show is, because there's never been one in their world. My coming of age was probably from 1997 - 2005, and we had radio and music channels. That was it. Things are a world apart today.
Radio 1 need to extend their age range to people from as early as possible to under 40. Look at it this way. I've felt alienated from Radio 1 since about 2009, and as of 2017 I'm 28 years old. I've tried Radio 2 but their local radio feel, and playing past it artists on their A & B playlists like Status Quo and Rod Stewart just doesn't cut it for me. It's a couple of genetations away, ABBA and Depeche Mode aren't my era.
The only few I can tolerate is Simon Mayo, Sara Cox, Jo Wiley and Mark Radcliffe (if he's not doing the folk show and covering a daytime slot). And that's just presenter wise, the entire feel of the station is just 'sod anyone who was born after 1980'. And otherwise for Radio 1 is 'screw anyone who was born before '97'. That's a big gap and as I've said on here loads of times someone has to fill it. Because 25-40 is the youngest generation who seems to use Radio whatsoever.

Looking at the comments on Radio 2's facebook page and the bitching towards anyone my age, it's no wonder we don't cross over.

Simon Mayo bought plenty of personality there before Jo Whiley took it on full time in 2001. Maybe restrictions were different then, but he just came across as the friendly bloke next door type of thing. I think that's why he's got such an esteemed timeslot on Radio 2 these days.

15 year old's and below aren't interested in Radio. They've grown up with ipods, and youtube and spotify and therefore never had to use Radio like we did in the 90's and early 2000's.

They hire out one of the studio's at a station I'm at, for students from the uni to use on media courses. Just last week I chatted to the tutor who was overseeing a few students recording demo's etc. And he told me that they didn't know the difference between Radio 1 & Radio 4. One told him they had actually never listened to Radio 1 at any point in their life, incredible considering what they are studying.

But it goes to show Radio 1 is facing a lost battle with trying to pull in children as listeners. If they are going to go anywhere it's Capital as they hardly talk and play the same 15 songs back to back.

The wooden panels of Radio 2 await him maybe? Although if you'd of told me in 2006 that Scott would still be on Radio 1 in 10 years time I wouldn't of been suprised. He continues to be the best on the daytime lineup, he deserves to stop on another 10 imo.

He started alongside the likes of Chris Moyles, Mark & Lard, Simon Mayo, Clive Warren etc and is the only one left at Radio 1 who can turn his hand to anything. I mean thinking about different situations. If an event on the scale of 9/11 happened today could anyone on there apart from Scott be trusted to handle that properly on air...

Have to post this. Wes Butters buggering up the end of Mark & Lard in March 2004, with Scott Mills somewhere in the middle apologizing for the break in transmission. Trying to hold in his laughter.

That won't happen. As much as I don't see how Danny's show is actually "Dance Anthems" when it's loads of fresh and mostly unreleased new dance music. Unlike Dave Pearce's version which was well established dance tracks that everyone knew.

Radio 1 has always had a dance show in that time for years. Remember, Judge Jules used to be there from the late 90's into the early 2000's, and then moved to 7-9 on a Saturday night. It is at the perfect time as people are getting ready to go out.

I do think Danny's show needs to be renamed though as it's a bit misleading with loads of upfront tunes. Maybe bring in a new presenter and put Dance Anthems on a Sunday evening, playing erm dance anthems. Where it always should of been.
