Florence Pugh stole the show on Thursday’s Breakfast Show, and not just by talking about her new Netflix drama East of Eden with co-star Mike Faist. During a round of Sit Down Stand Up, Pugh insisted on calling viral takeaway hero “Big John,” having greeted Greg James earlier with an enthusiastic “Bosh.” John picked up mid-escalator at Stratford station, and Pugh wasted no time inviting him for dinner: “We’ll go and share a Chinese in the Blue Orchid,” she told him, with John agreeing to order for her. Faist, looking on bemused, admitted afterwards he had “no idea what you guys are talking about.”
Elsewhere, newsreader Callum Leslie was put through his paces ahead of recording his CBeebies Bedtime Story, with Greg coaching him on his “CBB’s voice” and listeners sending in shout-outs for Callum to read out in character, including a cheeky “pinch punch, first of the month” dig from ten-year-old Zara, part of an ongoing monthly battle with Greg. Callum’s story airs on iPlayer soon, while Thursway brought its own first: Charlie Hedges announced she and her four-year-old daughter Summer Rose will become the first parent-and-child duo to record a CBeebies Bedtime Story together, airing Friday at 6.45pm.
The ten-minute takeover also caused minor backstage chaos, with Greg revealing producer Amy had wiped the studio’s hard drive to free up space, delaying song choices until apprentice Ruby was brought in to break the deadlock.
