Luke Carr presented BBC Radio 1’s Weekend Early Breakfast, telling listeners it was his “last show today” and thanking those who had sent messages during his run, saying it had “been an absolute honour”. He signed off wishing his successor well, with no reason given for the change.
Before the farewell, Carr delivered a long-promised Unpopular Opinion segment, declaring that Weetabix tastes better without milk, comparing dry Weetabix to a fitness snack bar. He later shared a lighter, dog-themed anecdote about his blue whippet, Blue, describing how the dog has taken over the household, sleeps in the bed, and even gets treats from his grandmother on daily walks.
Musically, the show featured new material from Fat Dog, whose upcoming album Cancel Me is out next week; Carr shared the story behind the band’s name, linking it to frontman Joe Love’s pandemic-era Instagram account reviewing overweight pets. Other new music included tracks from Slater, Freya Sky (promoting her new Stars Align tour) and a collaboration between Blond and Mica Paris (Melissa Steele). Listeners also heard AJ Tracey, Skepta and Chase & Status with Jaykae, Dua Lipa, Sombr, Blossom and Declan McKenna.
Carr also flagged that Craig, one of the BBC Introducing artists currently touring with Sam Smith, encouraged aspiring musicians to submit demos to BBC Introducing. The show closed with a track from Skillibeng and Burna Boy, Die Die, as Carr handed over to the following programme.
