Stormzy brought a crowd to the Live Lounge
Scott could tell how enormous Stormzy had become simply from the number of people surrounding his Live Lounge appearance. The corridors were busier, staff looked more stressed and there was a genuine sense that a major star had arrived.
Stormzy’s performance impressed Scott and Chris enough that they immediately began wondering whether they could persuade him to return for one of Radio 1’s Christmas Live Lounges.
Stormzy supplied celebrity nicknames
Afterwards they gave him photographs of famous people and asked him to invent nicknames.
Adele became “the GOAT” — greatest of all time. Richard Osman was simply “genius”, a compliment Osman later noticed online. Gemma Collins prompted a more direct response: “crazy, crazy, crazy woman”.
The game also revealed the limits of Stormzy’s celebrity knowledge, with some familiar television faces meaning far more to Scott and Chris than they did to him.
Bromans was the new Love Island
Scott and Chris thought they had found the programme to fill the reality-TV hole left by Love Island: ITV2’s Bromans.
The concept put modern men into a version of ancient Rome, complete with sandals, gold costumes and relationship drama. The pair were particularly fascinated by the promise that contestants would eventually make bronze casts of intimate parts of their bodies and compete in a Colosseum-style final.
It sounded ridiculous enough to become essential viewing.
