2 September 2009: Radio 1 presenters ruin their Newsbeat introductions

Failed news introductions

Scott played examples of Radio 1 presenters making mistakes immediately before Newsbeat.

He said these moments often entertained people in the office even though they would not normally be replayed on air.

Casualty became tangled while attempting to introduce political reporter Reeta Chakrabarti and eventually abandoned the sentence with an apology.

Colin Murray also stumbled over a presenter or reporter’s name during his handover.

A much older clip captured a presenter discovering that a Jack Johnson record would not start, then trying to move abruptly into the news.

The mistakes illustrated how a routine station junction could become unusually difficult once a presenter knew the news bulletin had to begin at an exact time.
