Korean Billy comes to Radio 1
Scott finally met Korean Billy, the South Korean YouTuber whose lessons in British accents had become an obsession on the show. Billy explained that he first encountered the variety of regional speech while studying in Preston, then began making videos for Korean viewers who might not realise how many different British accents existed.
He demonstrated Geordie, Scouse, Bristol and Hull, and Scott proposed a much bigger assignment: appearing at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Hull. Billy had never been on stage at a festival but said he would be interested if their diaries could be made to work.
Yas queen, love you, bye
The lesson then reversed. Scott taught Billy the show’s own carefully accumulated dialect, beginning with “yas” and its superior form, “yas queen”. “Ha” was the response to something embarrassingly old, while “love you, bye” ended almost any conversation. The final phrase, “that’s one”, identified an accidental innuendo.
Billy absorbed all four remarkably quickly and supplied his own examples.
Bake Off’s random line-up and a lizard Bieber
Channel 4’s new Great British Bake Off team — Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding — struck Scott as extraordinarily random. With the help of Harrison the window cleaner, he drew an alternative line-up from three bags: Judi Dench, Stephen Mulhern and White Dee.
In Real or No Real, Greg James confirmed that some Justin Bieber fans really had been fooled by a story claiming he could transform into a giant lizard.
