8 July 2016: Olly Murs arrives as Scott and Chris earn a Euro final

Paris proves the experiment works

Scott and Chris return from France after commentating on the Euro 2016 semi-final between France and Germany. They replay some of the most excitable moments and compare their unconventional approach with the restrained sound of conventional radio coverage. The response has been far more positive than Scott expected.

Alan Shearer calls with another surprise. He says they passed the semi-final test with flying colours and invites them back to cover Sunday’s France versus Portugal final. Chris is thrilled; Scott immediately starts worrying about sustaining the performance on an even bigger occasion. Their preparation includes a fresh search for player-related song cues, with Nani offering an obvious musical opportunity.

Olly Murs wants another soaking

Olly Murs brings in his new single, “You Don’t Know Love”, and talks about playing in Soccer Aid. He recalls the injury Danny Jones sustained after a challenge from Sol Campbell and admits that even a charity match can become fiercely competitive.

Olly also wants another appearance on Innuendo Bingo. He complains that Scott and Chris manage to invite major film stars onto the programme while leaving him waiting for a return, and makes it clear that he considers himself ready for another soaking whenever they are.

Greg James judges the facts

Greg James plays Real or No Real, considering claims including France’s rules for the amount of French-language music on radio and the teenage Emma Stone using a PowerPoint presentation to persuade her parents to support an acting career. The Emma Stone story is real: she made the presentation when she was 14. The facts provide a brief diversion before Scott and Chris turn their attention back to Paris and the biggest commentary assignment of their lives.
