Rihanna’s enormous omelette
Rihanna’s yellow Met Gala dress dominated the morning’s photographs. Scott thought she looked spectacular, but Chris could see only a giant omelette or deep-pan pizza taking over the red carpet.
The internet had already placed its long train in a frying pan, exactly the kind of immediate response Scott believed an outfit that extraordinary was designed to provoke. Chris remained unable to accept that deliberately wearing something ridiculous counted as fashion.
A compulsory shower
Scott discovered that Chris did not shower before their early Breakfast Shows because he preferred to sleep for every available minute. Chris promised that he washed later, but Scott insisted that a new day required a new shower and fresh pants.
He sent Chris to the staff showers in the BBC basement and spoke to him by phone from the studio. Chris removed every item of clothing, turned on the water and followed Scott’s instructions for “shower-okie”, singing a version of Nick Jonas’s “Jealous” while other staff remained conspicuously silent in neighbouring cubicles.
Listeners woke to Scott directing a naked Chris through the song. Scott also learned that Chris did not make any special effort to wash his feet, because he assumed the water running over them was sufficient.
Talking in their sleep
The show revived recordings made by sleep-monitoring apps. One listener and her boyfriend both spoke during the night, sometimes apparently conducting conversations while neither was awake.
Other clips featured warnings, fragments of songs and statements that made sense only to the sleeping person. Scott invited anybody who regularly talked in their sleep to leave an app running and send the results to the show.
Three against one
Girl group M.O joined Chris for Innuendo Bingo. Annie, Frankee and Nadine each had water, turning the game into a three-against-one soaking for somebody who had only just been ordered to wash.
Scott also continued lobbying listeners to choose him in Hackstage Pass. The Breakfast week had therefore given Chris two competing duties: improve Scott’s position in a computer game and remain visibly cleaner than he had been at the start of Tuesday.
