Trevor Nelson keeps his cool in Innuendo Bingo
Show introducer Kirsty, a personal trainer from Walsall, remembered discovering that Pixie Lott had quietly joined one of her BodyAttack classes. She only realised when somebody from the previous session warned her, but chose not to play “Mama Do” because she could no longer remember the routine. Despite all the running, jumping, press-ups and abdominal work, Pixie still looked composed at the end, unlike most participants, while Kirsty also revealed that she had previously trained Nancy from The Worst Witch without immediately recognising her.
Scott welcomed “radio royalty” Trevor Nelson for Innuendo Bingo, placing him in an emergency festival poncho opposite Chris. Trevor kept his mouthful of water through clips about boning a chicken, tasting hot sauce, a bearded tit and extraordinarily full balls, while Chris repeatedly sprayed him. His composure finally broke after an Escape to the Country discussion of everybody using the back door, but he retaliated with one last direct hit after Scott had declared the game over. Scott was left impressed by one of the strongest first performances the feature had seen.
After the previous day’s count reached 71, Scott issued an appeal for listeners to stop emailing about Margaret “Muff” Ashworth’s episode of The Hotel Inspector. He suspected programmes including Come Dine with Me and Phil Spencer: Secret Agent were now deliberately using innuendo to secure a place in the game, although he admitted he had no evidence. The team suggested that guilty shows should declare their intentions in the closing credits before formally attempting to put the entire subject to bed.
Scott discovered Diamond Dave, a Californian one-man entertainment package who sang, played keyboards and acted as both DJ and master of ceremonies. A video showed him performing a mixture of current hits and older favourites through a Steps-style headset while a young party crowd danced. Scott preferred him to hiring Pitbull, listeners proposed a future Fun and Filth Cabaret appearance, and the team began trying to contact him about travelling to Britain.
After the Bingo soaking, Trevor accidentally left with a producer’s telephone, keys and work pass, creating the prospect of Chris spending another night in the youth hostel. The hostel had also offered to name his bunk room after him and unveil a plaque with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Oh, What’s Occurring? ended the programme by measuring the pauses in a four-minute Richard Branson interview: his collection of “ums” and “ers” occupied one minute and four seconds, more than a quarter of the entire conversation.
