Chris tries to build a free lunch from shop samples
Chris believed he had found a way to avoid paying for lunch: visit a shop offering samples and take enough of them to make a meal. He ran out to test the plan, treating the promotional food as the latest in a long line of business opportunities and money-saving schemes brought to the programme.
His more ambitious idea was a telephone service for people who needed to let off steam. Inspired by a similar premium-rate service in Germany, Chris bought a cheap telephone and SIM card and proposed making money by allowing frustrated callers to have a rant. The experiment was launched during the programme, ready for listeners to put the service under immediate pressure.
The show also returned to “Trevor Nelson phone-gate”. After playing Innuendo Bingo the previous day, Trevor had accidentally left with a producer’s telephone, keys and work pass. The mix-up had created the possibility of Chris being locked out and forced back into the youth hostel beside Radio 1, so the team followed the attempt to reunite everybody with the correct belongings.
