Emily Atack soaks Chris in Innuendo Bingo
Scott opened the Breakfast Show with a “radio hug” for listeners awaiting their GCSE results, helped by producer Matt Fincham playing soothing music on the studio piano. Chris had followed his nap at a football match by falling asleep while visiting his grandmother, waking to find her still talking and a partly eaten plate of sandwiches beside him. A discussion about head massages also revived his disastrous first massage in Kavos, where a misunderstanding had left him naked and asking Scott for instructions through the wall.
The Posh Radio 4 Lady considered a listener’s plan for Chris to become one of Britain’s first male Olympic synchronised swimmers, although he remained more interested in reviving the bowls career he had briefly started after his own GCSEs. The team discovered the Chinese “facekini”, a full-face covering designed for the beach, and remembered a friend who had ordered 10,000 masks during the swine-flu scare. Listener Kira called before collecting her results and received Scott’s permission to miss the final hour of the programme, with the team promising to check on her later.
Scott continued tormenting Nick Grimshaw with the short Jessie J clip he disliked. Grimmy endured a minute of it during a telephone call before hanging up, while Scott’s agent remained on the line for an impressive five minutes and 32 seconds. Grimmy then returned to identify real and invented headlines from his past, explaining his Lily Allen fancy dress, childhood interest in playing with raw meat and the “no carbs till Efron” note he had once placed on his desk. He also recalled almost being taken to dinner by actress Taylor Schilling after interviewing her, only for the invitation to disappear.
Little Mix attempted to name as many former X Factor contestants as possible in a minute, reaching 16 after a frantic round that included One Direction and Johnny Robinson. Kira returned after opening her GCSE results and admitted that they were not as strong as she had hoped, particularly in French and maths. Scott and Chris reassured her, explained that the grades were only the beginning of deciding what came next and supplied a helpline offering independent advice on her options.
Emily Atack arrived in a rain poncho for Innuendo Bingo, having been booked by Chris, and said she did not yet know whether another Inbetweeners film would happen. Her first attempts were cautious, but clips about basting a chicken, coming out of Paul O’Grady and everything entering an English house through the back door soon changed that. A line from Antiques Road Trip sent a particularly large spray straight at Chris, while The Great British Bake Off, Greg Wallace, a cannon salute and the familiar boy with his finger in the dyke kept both of them laughing until the end.
