Nick Grimshaw faces Truth or Dare before breakfast
Scott’s third Breakfast cover began with memories of meeting Little Mix the previous afternoon, when the group had joined him in drifting into an Australian accent. Chris had meanwhile reached a new level of tiredness by falling asleep during Watford’s match and missing a goal despite being surrounded by thousands of supporters. He and Scott also remembered the small earthquake they had felt in Zante: Scott had interrupted a phone call from his hotel room, while Chris had watched the pool ripple from his more predictable position at the bar.
Scott admitted that he needed to learn how to cook before his flatmate moved out. His supposedly simple first effort had involved finding a fishmonger for two tuna steaks, then confusing teaspoons with tablespoons and covering them in far too much paprika and cayenne pepper. The result took about an hour instead of the promised 15 minutes and was almost unbearably hot. Chris’s claim that he could cook proved even less impressive when he revealed that he generally meant putting a ready meal and its accompanying sauce in the microwave.
The Posh Radio 4 Lady read an invitation from a listener who wanted to book Scott for a wedding five years in advance. Scott declined after recalling a lottery winner’s reception where a power cut had plunged the marquee into darkness, another wedding where too much champagne led to him being removed from the decks as he played James Blunt, and the occasion when he had needed help taking over at Radio 1 colleague Laura’s celebration. Another listener offered enough Danny Howard points to send Chris on part of a round-the-world bicycle ride, but Chris was considerably more interested once Italy and France were mentioned.
Nick Grimshaw returned for a Breakfast Show initiation game of Truth or Dare. He chose to hear friend Jack’s story about repeatedly entering his telephone number into a card machine rather than eat a full English breakfast, then accepted American Amy’s account of him injuring his foot while leaping from a rickshaw and later wearing a high heel rather than listen to Jessie J on a loop. A mysterious caller named Max from Primrose Hill supposedly held the final secret, but turned out to be somebody from the office. By again choosing truth, Grimmy avoided a haircut from Chris and his enormous garden shears.
Sam and the Womp taught the team the correct hand movements for “Bom Bom” and introduced Lady Oo, who said she came from the Planet of the Cats and was wearing a purple catsuit decorated with a special blue feather. They resisted Scott’s suggestion that they should represent the UK at Eurovision before performing ahead of their Live Lounge. The show ended with Fearne Cotton facing Chris in Innuendo Bingo, where clips about hypnotising hens, Cliff Richard wanting to wake up inside Elvis and Del Winton searching for beef left both players wet.
