The Fun and Filth Cabaret opens in Edinburgh
The programme arrived in Edinburgh with a red-velvet radio studio, a pink performance tent and the much larger venue for the first night of the Fun and Filth Cabaret. Scott worried that his mother Sandra would see the song he had planned for the end of the show and considered sending her to the bar before it began. Show introducer Jamie provided the day’s first live act by peeling a banana entirely with his feet, a skill he had developed while trying to irritate his younger brother. Scott was impressed by the speed but firmly refused to eat the finished banana.
The cabaret’s stranger performers included fire-and-burlesque act Kitty Bang Bang and the sword-swallowing Curious Couple from Coney. Beccy and Grimmy then played a special “gold” edition of Innuendo Bingo wearing improvised protection made from bin bags. Scott replayed favourite clips involving a welcoming entrance, Cliff Richard wanting to wake up inside Elvis and sports commentary about soaking somebody’s balls in hot water. Grimmy’s badly positioned arm holes and torn trousers contributed to what the team cheerfully called the most shambolic game they had ever staged.
Mark Watson explained that his thirteenth consecutive Fringe included a stand-up show and a deliberately stupid Olympic event featuring backwards races and grapes dropped into people’s mouths.
