Peter’s impression audition descends into chaos
Listener Charlotte recalled working as an extra on The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill but Came Down a Mountain. Hugh Grant was supposed to lift another girl during the final celebration but accidentally picked up Charlotte instead. The mistake meant the shot was unusable, although Grant later gave her a signed photograph and Charlotte remained available for any directors seeking extras.
Peter auditioned for the Fun and Filth Cabaret with impressions of Quagmire, Alan Rickman, Mickey Mouse, Dominic Littlewood, Towelie and Sylvester Stallone. He repeatedly announced the subject before Scott and Chris could guess, forgot parts of his routine and confessed that he once tried unsuccessfully to use his Stallone voice as proof that he was old enough to buy a film. Peter then admitted that Chris’s face made him nervous because it did not match his radio voice, turning the audition into an increasingly awkward but memorable conversation.
Hot weather led a workshop boss to let his staff work in their boxer shorts, prompting listeners around the country to send photographs of themselves doing the same. Scott approved of builders removing their trousers but decided that hairdressers and chefs should put them back on for reasons of comfort, hygiene and safety. Chris insisted the appeal was motivated by concern about people overheating rather than any desire to collect pictures of men in their underwear.
The team began investigating an old cracked phone Chris believed dated from 2007. Its photographs included a cruise ship, a pint, friends in Prague and two unidentified women in a kitchen, while the videos captured a housemate eating a carrot and Pat Sharp DJing the Fun House theme at a student union. Scott judged it an underwhelming start to the feature and challenged everyone to find more revealing phones for the following day.
Beccy arrived wearing turquoise bangles she had been forced to buy after becoming unable to remove them in the shop. Scott also turned the previous day’s endlessly repeated “absolutely” into responses to songs by the Pussycat Dolls, Kings of Leon and Touch and Go. In Oh, What’s Occurring?, the team identified celebrity tweets from Louis Walsh, Holly Willoughby, Calvin Harris, Example and David Hasselhoff, although Chris’s habit of guessing Donald Trump was formally banned.
