Dappy nearly forgets Hackney Weekend as Chris tackles a football anthem
Ross introduced the programme from a holiday in Magaluf, where one side of his body had turned red while the other had tanned. He claimed to have played Innuendo Bingo on his balcony using beer after the water ran out and tried to order a cheese-and-ham sandwich using a phrase that sounded thoroughly unconvincing to Scott. Ross had also celebrated his birthday on the same day as Prince William, although Scott suspected their evenings had been rather different.
With Hackney Weekend beginning the following day, Scott called Dappy to check whether he remembered that he was appearing. Dappy initially said he planned to take his children to a theme park, then sounded surprised when Scott mentioned the festival before insisting he had known about it. After hearing the One Extra stage line-up, he promised to prepare a medley and asked Scott not to forget him when they met at Hackney.
Chris had been asked to create the emotional song that television programmes could use over a montage whenever a sporting team won, lost or somehow drew a tournament. His work in progress simply placed a collection of familiar Elton John lyrics over the music from “Dry Your Eyes”, moving without explanation between Daniel, Norma Jean, “I’m Still Standing”, “Rocket Man” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”. Scott and Beccy rejected it and told him to return with a real song.
Listeners travelling to Hackney asked what footwear they should bring, prompting a debate between wellies, trainers and flip-flops. Chris then proposed attending in fancy dress as a Smurf, while Scott revealed that he sometimes frightened people by looking through his bedroom window in a large wolf’s head. They eventually accepted that a Smurf with a wolf’s head might distract slightly from the world’s biggest festival line-up.
In Oh, What’s Occurring?, the team counted how frequently contestants and presenters had said “no pressure” during Radio 1’s Hackney ticket competition. Scott and Beccy guessed 16 and 12 respectively, but nobody had counted the montage properly and they briefly invented an answer of 14. A second count established that “no pressure” had been said exactly 16 times, giving Scott the points before the station handed over to the festival.
