Lana Del Rey answers Chris’s first nudie pen
Elliot opened the programme by remembering the holiday cocktail he had shared with David Cameron shortly before the 2010 general election. They had met at a beach bar in Egypt, ordered mojitos and talked for more than an hour without discussing politics. Scott imagined the friendship they might have maintained if Cameron had not returned home to run the country while Elliot pursued a career as a DJ.
With Beccy away, Chris played a solo Innuendo Bingo while lying on the floor. Water was replaced with Greek yoghurt and a man in a high-visibility jacket was presented as proof that health and safety had been considered. Clips from Vanessa Feltz, Home and Away, Gok Wan, Moira Stuart and local radio repeatedly sent yoghurt into Chris’s face, hair and nose until he considered using the Radio 1 shower.
Dear Scott brought an international message from a listener teaching English in a Tibetan monastery, a report that Chris’s ice-cream-van app already existed in Germany and criticism of his dirty dragon pens. Another listener credited Neil Strauss’s The Game, previously featured in Show and Tell, with helping him meet his girlfriend. Chris was also offered a substitute friendship by a man whose best friend was moving to Australia.
Chris prepared nudie pens and birthday letters for Mila Kunis, Anthony Costa, George Michael and Prince William. His letter to William suggested keeping the gift away from his wife or passing it to Prince Harry. Before any of those packages had been posted, Lana Del Rey gave the project its first success by accepting a pen on her birthday and writing, “Thank you so much for the nudie pen. You’re the best.”
Colin Murray joined Oh, What’s Occurring? while preparing to interview Nas and DJ at Hackney Weekend. He and Chris guessed how often the name Bogie was repeated during coverage of the Scottish Rally Championship. The answer was 33, far above Colin’s guess of three and Chris’s 20, bringing a show dominated by yoghurt and novelty stationery to a noisy conclusion.
