Scott and Chris looked back on their trip to Manchester United, including Chris’s affection for the M6 Toll and a difficult service-station change into suits. Chris had forgotten black socks, briefly thought he might not have shoes and discovered that the services stocked wetsuits and scarecrows but not the things he actually needed.

The day also took in Engelbert Humperdinck’s Eurovision preparations. The show enjoyed the unlikely image of the veteran singer playing darts, treating it as another example of the odd details that could attach themselves to Britain’s Eurovision entry before the contest had even begun.

Innuendo Bingo featured Tom Deacon, Radio 1’s dependable stand-in, on his first appearance in the game. He came down mid-lunch and joined Chris at the microphones, only to find the regular bin was leaking and the replacement was so small that both players were effectively aiming at each other.

Tom initially held the water impressively well while Chris repeatedly lost it. That advantage did not last: cookery, television and gardening clips eventually produced water across Tom’s clothes and around the cramped studio area, confirming Beccy’s view from home that health and safety had gone badly off the rails without her.

The programme’s mixture of motorway trivia, Eurovision darts and a waterlogged guest made it a particularly visual edition. Tom had arrived as the “super sub” for Radio 1, but by the end he had been given the full Innuendo Bingo initiation.
