Pants fly at gigs as The Archers finds a new animal command
Scott opened the week with Aaron’s story of throwing someone else’s discarded pants at him during a student DJ set in Dundee. The apparently isolated pair had soon been joined by more underwear flying around the room, and Scott became determined to establish whether this was a normal concert ritual or merely a particularly messy student-union incident.
Beccy initially insisted she could not imagine the logistics, especially if the thrower was wearing trousers. Scott promptly set her a mission to throw a pair at a forthcoming Alan Titchmarsh show, a proposal that became even more absurd when listeners suggested Olympic gymnastics trials, weddings and theatre performances as potential venues. One caller had already bought new underwear specifically to throw at James Blunt, having given the matter far more preparation than either presenter expected.
The show’s affection for The Archers continued when its original “Go on, pigs” discovery gained a companion line. A new clip of someone urging cows along delighted the team, who immediately started waiting for the soap to provide comparable orders for sheep. The simple phrase “Go on, cows” was enough to make the whole subject feel important again.
Scott also shared an unintentionally suggestive recording from a recruitment-company phone system. The team replayed the instruction several times as they tried to work out whether it really sounded as rude as listeners believed. It was exactly the kind of accidental phrasing the show enjoyed turning into a communal afternoon investigation.
By the end, a one-off anecdote had become a minor campaign: listeners were asked to consider throwing pants at any appropriate live event, while Scott gently tried to impose rules about taking a spare pair rather than attempting to remove the ones being worn. The show treated it as a public service, although it was hard to see how anyone, especially Alan Titchmarsh, would benefit.
