Olly Murs and Jason Byrne join Scott for a very chaotic Friday
Friday’s show arrived with the team ready to abandon any remaining sense of order. Olly Murs was in the studio at a time when his X Factor past still supplied an easy route into conversation, and Scott made the most of having a guest who was happy to laugh at the show’s increasingly daft lines of questioning.
Olly’s appearance carried the familiar blend of pop promotion and friendly interrogation. Scott and the team were much more interested in the odd details that sat around celebrity life than a standard interview, leaving Olly to navigate the sort of questions that would not normally feature in a carefully planned radio appearance.
Comedian Jason Byrne brought a more openly chaotic energy. His chat repeatedly threatened to break apart under the weight of quick detours, impressions and studio laughter, with Scott, Beccy and Chris responding less like interviewers than people trying to keep up with a particularly entertaining mate.
The contrast between the two guests made the programme feel properly Friday-shaped. Olly could lean into the self-aware pop-star jokes, while Jason turned anything offered to him into a new comic direction. Scott was happy to let both interviews sprawl when the material was funnier than the original plan.
By the end, the show had the relaxed, overfilled character of a good end-of-week edition: guests, gossip, interruptions and the team’s own running jokes all competing for space. It was not a programme interested in neat conclusions, which was exactly why it worked.
