Scott’s CV advice, Dev’s wrestling retirement and a drive-through craving
Scott was still sitting in for Grimmy on Breakfast, returning after a sick day spent entirely on the sofa and, by his own admission, getting far too deeply into the Kardashians. Dev arrived fresh from his wrestling match, proudly calling it one of the most enjoyable things he had ever done, while also admitting that virtually every part of him hurt afterwards.
Dev had trained with the wrestlers, performed in the ring and then immediately announced his retirement. Scott was not convinced that a first retirement would be permanent, especially once the thrill of the entrance, the referee camera and the bruises had worn off. The feature was affectionate proof that Dev had taken a very silly idea much more seriously than anyone expected.
One early caller was heavily pregnant and parked outside a McDonald’s drive-through before opening time. She was craving breakfast but was too uncomfortable to drive elsewhere, and became increasingly anxious that the staff might be listening and realise she was the woman waiting outside. Scott enjoyed the image, gently suggesting that giving birth at the collection window would at least make her the first person in the queue.
The show’s more useful strand came from the BBC’s Up for Hire week. Scott, Beccy and Chris had prepared CVs for an expert to assess, with Beccy considering yellow paper and a heavy application of perfume to make hers memorable. The team quickly discovered that standing out is not always the same as being employable, and Scott confessed that his own CV had not been properly updated for years.
Beccy also brought in Alan Sugar’s book, What You See Is What You Get, prompting a quiz about the businessman’s rants and rules. Alongside the careers advice, the programme made room for Chris’s childhood grievance about Get Your Own Back, which he still believed had miscounted the pedals and denied him a deserved victory. It was a classic Breakfast Show mixture, half practical help and half long-held nonsense.
