Grimmy meets Beyoncé before a very chatty Britney Spears interview
After returning from Greece, Beccy was trying to remember how work functioned, while Grimmy argued that holidays should involve lying down rather than trekking. He said the only real attraction of a skiing break was the drinking afterwards, and that anyone who wanted a strenuous week away could simply go to their local pub instead. It was a relaxed start to a show which soon became much more pop-star heavy.
Grimmy had spent his Saturday interviewing Beyoncé, a booking important enough to get him out of bed on his day off. He described being genuinely nervous, praised her appearance and talked through the strange experience of meeting an artist he admired rather than somebody he could casually interview. The team’s discussion made the encounter feel exciting precisely because Grimmy was not pretending to be cool about it.
Britney Spears was the day’s studio guest. Grimmy asked about her VMA award, the moment Lady Gaga presented it dressed as Jo Calderone, the artists she was listening to and her plans for her birthday and forthcoming tour. Britney was good-humoured about tabloid nonsense, including rumours involving alien children, while Grimmy kept finding extra things he wanted to tell her.
Once the interview was over, he immediately worried that his nerves had made him talk too much. Listeners noticed too, and Grimmy jokingly proposed an edit for devoted Britney fans with his own voice removed, leaving only a sequence of Britney’s “OK”, “yes” and “oh my God” responses. He was embarrassed enough to apologise, but clearly pleased that the conversation had happened at all.
The show also returned to Grimmy’s recent cover run, including his enthusiasm for Jedward and the hard-to-believe fact that the pair had said “OK” 64 times during their visit. It was a very fan-like broadcast, where the presenter’s excitement about Beyoncé and Britney was never disguised behind a conventional promotional interview.
