Jason Derulo teaches Chris how to dance as Scott defends Barry Manilow
Scott and Beccy reported back from their night at the Barry Manilow recording. Neither was ashamed of enjoying it, even if they accepted that the audience was largely made up of devoted older fans, celebrities and people who would normally be unexpected at a Radio 1 conversation.
Scott was impressed by Manilow’s old-school showmanship and the sheer scale of a stage carrying his name in enormous letters. Beccy had already been a fan, while Scott arrived more sceptical and left defending the singer as someone whose hits were more familiar than he had realised.
Jason Derulo then came in to discuss the early response to his music and the millions of views already gathered by his video. Scott was fascinated by whether a professional dancer ever became the centre of attention in a club, but Jason said he usually kept it to the deceptively simple two-step.
That was enough for the show to put Chris in front of the webcam and ask Jason to teach him. Jason tried to explain the lean, bounce and necessary “swag”, while Scott and Beccy concluded that Jason looked effortless and Chris looked like somebody’s dad on a questionable night out.
The programme also included the EastEnders game for Scott Mills Points and a Dear Scott section read by the Post Radio 4 Lady. Jason’s willingness to turn an interview into a dance lesson gave the day its clearest moment, and Chris’s failure to make the two-step look natural supplied the payoff.
