20 January 2011: Sophie from Queen of Shops visits

Sophie from Queen of Shops visits

Sophie from Queen of Shops came in to talk about life behind the counter and the customers she had served. The interview was less a formal retail masterclass than a collection of stories about famous people arriving in the shop and the difficult balance between being helpful and pretending not to recognise them.

She recalled Tinchy Stryder trying on black high-top trainers, Liam Gallagher returning to buy more pairs of the same shoes, and Helen Worth, better known to the team as Coronation Street’s Gail, shopping with a very tall man. Sophie’s attempt to join Tinchy’s banter briefly left her in an awkward silence before fans rescued the moment.

Scott and Beccy enjoyed the details, especially the celebrity habit of buying multiples of an item they liked. The chat fitted the show’s fondness for ordinary jobs becoming more interesting once the right story was attached to them.
