5 July 2024: AC/DC, Tiësto and Kim’s three-spin regret

Sleeping through the impossible

Scott asked listeners to confess the strangest places they had fallen asleep.

He admitted sleeping through a Mission: Impossible premiere despite Tom Cruise being in attendance.

One listener fell asleep at an AC/DC concert at Wembley Stadium after working all day and travelling by train and Tube.

Another slept while Tiësto played in Ibiza.

Other stories involved speakers in nightclubs, Michael McIntyre’s live show, a Jean-Michel Jarre concert and a dental assistant who fell from a stool after nodding off beside a patient.

A listener at the legendary Ibiza club Es Paradis woke after the venue had emptied and the dance floor had become a swimming pool.

The Birthday Game: Kim

Kim from the Lake District turned 47 and enjoyed walking, swimming and being on the water.

She planned a cold-water swim before a school barbecue beside the lake.

Kim hoped for Three Lions to support England but received three different number ones.

Her first spin was John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John’s You’re the One That I Want from Grease.

She said she loved it but gambled.

The second was Icona Pop featuring Charli XCX with I Love It. Kim rejected that too.

Her compulsory final song was Billie Piper’s Because We Want To, number one in 1998.

Kim admitted she probably should have kept the Grease song, although the Billie track’s connection with the Women’s World Cup softened the disappointment.

The Wonder Years

The Friday Wonder Years began in 1998 and travelled through successive years with major pop and dance records.

Handover

Scott handed over after proving that some listeners could sleep through almost anything.
