8 July 2024: Egg limits, a chaotic Birthday Game duo and Brian Adams

Six eggs a day

Scott found a story about a man worried that his wife was eating as many as six boiled eggs every day.

The programme asked listeners where a healthy appetite ended and an excessive egg habit began.

Messages came from people who ate eggs for breakfast, lunch and snacks, alongside others who warned that six every day would become repetitive long before it became medically concerning.

Radio 2 in the Park’s DJ stage

Scott announced more details of the DJ stage at Radio 2 in the Park.

Saturday’s line-up included Tony Blackburn, Jo Whiley, Dermot O’Leary, Rylan, Michelle Visage, Scott and Romesh Ranganathan.

Sunday featured Trevor Nelson, Sara Cox, DJ Spoony, Gary Davies, Vernon Kay and Paddy McGuinness.

Romesh promised hip-hop, while Paddy described his set as a Sunday school disco packed with 1980s and 1990s records.

The Birthday Game: Jane and Kay

Jane from Lancashire turned 52 and played with her friend Kay beside her in the car.

The pair spent much of the feature trying to agree how the game worked.

Jane wanted Manchester bands, indie rock or 1980s music.

Their first spin was the Specials’ Ghost Town. Kay rejected it despite Jane calling it a tune.

The second was LF System’s Afraid to Feel. That received an even more decisive no.

Their compulsory final song was Brian Adams’ Everything I Do (I Do It for You), which still holds the record for the longest consecutive run at number one in the UK.

Jane tried to sound pleased while blaming Kay for gambling past the earlier choices.

The Music Police

James from Essex submitted a melody that Scott compared with the Crazy Frog.

The force began investigating despite receiving almost no useful detail beyond the hummed fragment.

Handover

Scott handed over after the egg debate and one of the Birthday Game’s most chaotic double acts.
