25 June 2024: Spoony chooses Back to Life

Wakey wakey

Scott asked parents to nominate teenagers and young adults who were sleeping through most of the day during the summer holidays.

The programme offered to become their personal alarm clock and call them live.

The Birthday Game: DJ Spoony

DJ Spoony, whose real name is Jonathan, turned 54.

He said that after covering Scott’s programme several times, he had always wondered whether he would stick or twist if given a strong first song.

Spoony shared his birthday with Jamie Redknapp, Ricky Gervais, Carly Simon and Benson Boone.

He chose Soul II Soul’s Back to Life.

His unused third song was 10cc’s I’m Not in Love.

Spoony said he would also have been happy with 10cc, but Back to Life was the perfect result.

I Am: Celine Dion

Scott discussed the closing song in Celine Dion’s documentary.

The team identified it as Wyn Starks’ Who I Am.

Starks had described it as a full-circle moment because Celine’s music had helped him through difficult periods in his own life.

Glastonbury begins

The gates opened at Worthy Farm.

Scott previewed Radio 2’s coverage and the arrival of first-time festivalgoers, including a local farmer who described himself as a Glastonbury virgin.

Handover

Scott handed over after Spoony’s Birthday Game and the start of Glastonbury week.
