Five hours of Scott
Sara Cox was unwell, leaving Scott to continue from his usual afternoon programme into the drive-time show.
He compared the schedule with radio in 2001 and invited listeners to settle in for five hours.
The programme also featured the first play of Justin Timberlake’s new single Selfish and confirmation that the Pet Shop Boys would complete the Piano Room line-up.
The singing horses
Tina called from a yard containing Noddy, Twix, Bullet, Bella, Lily, Buzz and Gem.
She claimed the horses sang, danced and nodded along to Radio 2.
Noddy had reportedly become particularly excited by We Don’t Talk About Bruno, while the group also enjoyed Erasure.
Scott played the songs through Tina’s speakerphone in the hope of capturing a live performance.
The horses simply stared at the phone.
Scott said this matched every previous attempt to make supposedly musical animals perform on demand.
He promised that if an animal ever genuinely sang live on his programme, he would consider his broadcasting career complete.
The Birthday Game: Bev
Bev from Swindon turned 41.
She had completed London’s MoonWalk in seven hours and 55 minutes, carrying bags of sweets attached to her bra for energy.
She and her sister completed the same event but walked at different speeds and lost each other near the start.
Bev wanted 1990s or early-2000s music, particularly boy bands including Take That, Hanson and Westlife.
Her first spin was Edison Lighthouse’s Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes). Bev rejected it.
The second was Usher’s You Make Me Wanna… from 1998. She liked it but gambled again.
Her compulsory third song was Jessie J’s Domino, number one in 2012.
Bev was delighted with the result and received the birthday balloon.
The Music Police
The force formally closed Nikki’s earlier mystery after listeners unanimously identified the quirky introduction to the Communards’ You Are My World.
A real detective from Greater Manchester Police also submitted the correct answer.
Nikki gave the Music Police ten stars out of five.
Unnecessary saxophone
Scott played a version of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Murder on the Dancefloor with an added saxophone solo.
He argued that almost every song could be improved by unnecessary sax and invited listeners to nominate more tracks for treatment.
Handover
Scott continued into Sara Cox’s programme rather than making the usual four o’clock handover.
