One Direction, Cheryl, Take That and several former prime ministers had all disappeared from display.
Gary Barlow had once joked that his waxwork had been melted down to make Britney Spears.
The museum clarified that old figures were generally placed in storage rather than destroyed.
Anneka Rice
Anneka Rice called after hearing the discussion.
Her waxwork had once hung from a rope ladder in the museum’s entrance, wearing a jumpsuit and headset from Treasure Hunt.
When Challenge Anneka replaced it, staff simply placed a paint tin and brush in the figure’s hands.
Anneka remembered being proud that tourists saw her almost immediately after arriving.
She had since heard nothing about the figure and joked that she had probably been melted down.
Scott imagined a warehouse containing Anneka and scores of other retired celebrities waiting in the dark.
The Birthday Game: Shelley
Shelley from Birmingham turned 43 and planned dinner with her husband, children, parents and sister.
She liked 1980s rock and 1990s dance music.
Shelley’s celebrity-birthday research had gone badly wrong, with Google incorrectly suggesting Tina Turner, Miley Cyrus, Demi Moore and David Schwimmer.
Her first spin was the Beatles’ She Loves You. Shelley rejected it.
The second was Beyoncé’s If I Were a Boy. She liked it but allowed curiosity to win.
Her compulsory final song was Julio Iglesias’ Begin the Beguine, number one in 1981.
Shelley immediately said she should have kept Beyoncé but accepted the result and requested a balloon.
Looking ahead to Christmas
Scott confirmed that Christmas would begin officially on Radio 2 on Friday, with Natalie Cassidy joining the entire programme.
Handover
