“I just burst out laughing”
Scott investigated a supposed replacement for “LOL”: IJBOL, meaning “I just burst out laughing”.
He tried using the phrase in a reply to a friend and asked listeners with teenagers whether it had genuinely entered everyday use.
The response suggested the term had not yet displaced older internet slang for most Radio 2 families.
Michelle Visage
Michelle Visage joined Scott ahead of her Friday-night Radio 2 programme.
She explained that her BBC Sounds podcast Rule Breakers focused on people who had ignored conventional routes and challenged the systems around them to achieve their goals.
Michelle said she was less interested in standard celebrity promotion than in the choices, setbacks and risks that shaped successful careers.
Guests in the new series included Jessie Ware, Melissa McCarthy, Elliot Page, Kesha and Katie Price.
Previous episodes had featured Cameron Diaz, Alan Carr, Dawn French, RuPaul, Billy Porter and Dita Von Teese.
Michelle also spoke about how much she valued presenting Radio 2 as an American and how warmly listeners had accepted her.
She and her husband used regular three-and-a-half-mile walks as family time.
The Birthday Game: Emma
Emma from near Birmingham had negotiated a day off shortly after returning from holiday.
She presented her own musical-theatre radio programme, reviewed shows and attended the theatre around once a week.
Her favourite musical was Miss Saigon.
Emma shared her birthday with Robert Redford, Andy Samberg and the late Patrick Swayze.
Her first spin was the Stylistics’ I Can’t Give You Anything (But My Love). She rejected it.
The second was Nico & Vinz’s Am I Wrong. Emma gambled again.
Her compulsory third song was Dexys Midnight Runners’ Come On Eileen, the UK’s biggest-selling single of 1982.
Emma described it as a guaranteed floor-filler and was delighted with the result.
