1 June 2023: Actual Melinda joins Scott for a relationship special

Soap stars who made records

Scott and Bobby Pryor remembered soap actors who had attempted pop careers.

The list included Stefan Dennis, Martine McCutcheon, Adam Rickitt, Holly Valance, Nick Berry and Letitia Dean.

The discussion followed confirmation that Jane McDonald would host the British Soap Awards, prompting suggestions for a medley of songs originally performed by soap stars.

Relationship irritations

The show became a relationship special because it was almost a year until Scott’s planned wedding.

Listeners were asked to name the habit their partner had that annoyed them most.

One caller described her husband spreading dirt through the house, while others complained about untidiness, noise and small routines that had become impossible to ignore.

The Birthday Game: Dawn

Dawn from Burnley turned 49 and worked for the NHS as a project coordinator.

She had joined the Girl Guides at eight and joked that she had forgotten to leave, remaining involved for around 40 years.

Guiding had allowed her to travel internationally and form lifelong friendships.

Dawn was preparing for a savoury afternoon tea built around cheese, pork pies and Scotch eggs rather than cakes.

Her first Birthday Game spin was Doctor and the Medics’ Spirit in the Sky. She rejected it partly because Gareth Gates’ later version had damaged the song for her.

The second was Robson and Jerome’s Unchained Melody. Dawn rejected that too.

Her compulsory final song was Hanson’s MMMBop, number one in 1997.

Dawn accepted it as a classic and was pleased with the gamble.

Melinda joins Scott

Melinda Willis from Married at First Sight Australia joined the programme.

Scott and Bobby admitted being heavily invested in the reality series and defended it as an examination of relationships and human behaviour rather than merely trashy television.

They discussed the format in which couples meet for the first time at the altar and then have their relationship scrutinised by experts and fellow participants.

Melinda reflected on the pressures of being observed so closely and the way small habits and communication problems became much larger within the experiment.

The interview formed the centrepiece of the programme’s wider discussion about the things partners did that drove one another mad.

Handover

Scott handed over to Sara Cox after the relationship special.
