Scott discussed Matt Willis’s BBC documentary about addiction and its effect on his family.
The programme included Matt returning to the rehabilitation clinic that had helped him become sober before his wedding to Emma Willis.
Scott praised Matt and Emma for speaking openly about a part of their lives they had usually kept private.
The Birthday Game: Jenny
Jenny from Chobham turned 60.
She worked as an area sales manager in the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning industry.
As a teenager, she had occasionally skipped school and travelled to BBC Television Centre to queue for Top of the Pops.
Jenny and her husband Warren were preparing for a two-week cruise stopping in Portugal, Madeira and the Canary Islands to celebrate both of their 60th birthdays.
Her first spin was the Ting Tings’ That’s Not My Name, number one in 2008. Jenny rejected it.
The second was Adam and the Ants’ Stand and Deliver, the biggest-selling UK single of 1981.
Jenny kept it because Warren had been a major Adam Ant fan and friends still associated the song with him.
She remembered hearing that he once owned the full outfit and wore the stripe across his face.
Tipping disasters
Listeners continued sharing stories about tipping in the United States.
Alison was chased from a Boston restaurant after leaving no tip.
Dan said his American parents sometimes left a £10 tip after ordering only £10 worth of drinks in Britain, confusing local bar staff.
A former train guard burst out laughing when a German tourist unexpectedly gave him money for helping with travel information.
Tracey said a San Francisco restaurant locked her group inside until somebody visited a cash machine and returned with $40.
Scott also learned that the Liverpool phrase “take your own” traditionally invited bar staff to retain a small amount as a tip.
The Music Police
Nick’s only remembered clue was the line “paints a picture”.
Listeners proposed several songs.
Luke suggested a different track; Helen and Emma offered Billy Bragg’s Must I Paint You a Picture; others suggested Anne-Marie’s 2002.
Nick rejected them all.
The strongest response came from listeners including Lou, Carolyn and Karen, who suggested Joshua Kadison’s Jessie.
Its lyric referred to Jessie painting pictures of how life was going to be.
Nick recognised it immediately and said he was delighted finally to identify the song.
The Music Police declared the case closed.
Handover
Scott handed over to Sara Cox after directing listeners to the Muppets’ Gary Davies jingle and Loreen’s viral reaction video.
