The Birthday Game: Helen
Helen turned 45 and had only recently started a new job.
Her employer still allowed her to take the day off so she could attend the Harrogate Spring Flower Show.
She shared her birthday with Luther Vandross, Andy Serkis, Tan France and Nicholas Lyndhurst.
Helen wanted something upbeat and fun.
Her first spin was Cliff Richard’s Congratulations, the UK’s 1968 Eurovision entry. Helen rejected it.
The second was Madonna’s La Isla Bonita. She chose to gamble again.
Her compulsory third song was Room 5 featuring Oliver Cheatham with Make Luv, number one in 2003.
Helen accepted it as a lively birthday choice and preferable to the previous two.
Bruno Tonioli
Bruno Tonioli joined Scott before another weekend of Britain’s Got Talent.
Scott reminded Bruno of judging him on Strictly Come Dancing, including one routine where Scott began on the wrong foot and could hear Bruno reacting from the desk.
Bruno said he never pretended and reacted immediately to whatever he saw.
He had already brought the same energy to Britain’s Got Talent, nearly falling, almost injuring himself and colliding with fellow judges Alesha Dixon and Simon Cowell.
Bruno admitted he had never watched the programme before being offered the role in January.
Simon told him that did not matter because he had never watched Strictly either.
Alesha had described Bruno as an excitable puppy who could not sit still.
Bruno said he was learning to pace himself while enjoying a format that allowed him to use more of his experience beyond dance.
He also remembered choreographing Gary Lineker for Walkers adverts, including a recreation of Flashdance that required a body double for the more demanding movements.
The Music Police
Lisa from Bath remembered a recent track with Spanish-sounding lyrics and a fragment resembling “piña colada, oh na-na-na-na”.
The first suspect was Rupert Holmes’ Escape (The Piña Colada Song). Lisa rejected it immediately.
The second suggestion was Las Ketchup’s The Ketchup Song. Lisa said it sounded closer but was still incorrect.
The strongest listener suggestion was Vibe Chemistry’s Loco.
Lisa recognised it instantly and said colleagues had spent weeks laughing about the mystery and trying to identify it.
The Music Police declared the case closed.
Handover
Scott handed over to Sara Cox after solving Lisa’s unusually difficult earworm.
