Jason Mohammad discusses Paul McCartney’s claim the Queen fancied him

Owain Wyn EvansRecap of the show on

Jason Mohammad, sitting in for Owain Wyn Evans on Early Breakfast, passed on a startling bit of pop history from Paul McCartney’s appearance on the Good Hang podcast. McCartney reportedly said that as young Beatles he and his bandmates thought the Queen was “a total babe,” and that his wife Nancy is convinced the Queen had a crush on him right back.

Jason also opened up about Owain’s Children in Need challenge, which will see him cover four nations and 400 miles in five days, and asked listeners to nominate their own “unsung heroes.” Lynn got in touch to thank her best friend Marilyn, a retired doctor who still listens and supports her daily, while Dean in Hebden Bridge praised his motorway traffic control team “led by the lovely Allison.”

The best moment came during the Rewinder, Jason’s slowed-down song guessing game. After plenty of listeners got the artist but not the title, he revealed it was Pulp’s Common People, and told a lovely personal story about seeing the band at Glastonbury two years ago. “I have never been in a crowd that went absolutely berserk,” he said, recalling his daughter dancing along despite not knowing the song.

Step Back In Time also took listeners back to 1991, with clues including Tim Berners-Lee’s World Wide Web and Bryan Adams’ chart-topping run, while Jason plugged the Children in Need Gala’s ABBA Voyage shows at London’s AO Arena, hosted by Vernon Kay.
