The big talking point was Taylor Swift's surprise deluxe release, "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore," which landed with three new songs. Layfield said "the girl's been very, very busy" after her recent tour and wedding. By the end of the show, Swift's "Patient Zero" was sitting at number one, with "Cleveto" at two and "Pink Clouding" at three, putting her on course for a possible triple entry in Friday's official chart. Spyro's "Great Expectation" slipped to six.
Elsewhere, the show recapped Friday's Official Radio 1 Dance Chart, with Hugo topping that list, and the new Official Homegrown Albums Chart, exclusively featuring UK artists – Beabadoobee claimed the number one new entry, ahead of Sienna Spyro's "The Visitor" and Olivia Dean's "The Art of Loving," which marked its first anniversary.
A Radio 1 Anthems Chart segment took listeners back to 28 September 2014, a year chosen by a listener whose parents finished a house extension that year, featuring Magic!, Ariana Grande, Sam Smith and George Ezra.
Throughout, listeners phoned and texted in with their "number one moment of summer," sharing news of engagements, weddings, a completed Master's in optometry, and even a PhD in quantum computing.
