27 November 2023: Would your partner peel an orange for you?

The orange peel theory

Scott introduced a relationship theory that had suddenly spread across social media.

The idea suggested that a partner’s willingness to perform a small task — such as peeling an orange — revealed something larger about their care and attitude.

A positive response might involve peeling it immediately without complaint or already knowing the other person disliked doing it.

A negative response might involve insisting that the person was perfectly capable of doing the task themselves.

Scott and Bobby discussed whether the test was meaningful or simply another way for couples to manufacture arguments online.

The Birthday Game: Emily

Emily from Barry in South Wales turned 34 and had an unusually strong memory for birthdays, postcodes and Wi-Fi passwords.

She demonstrated by reciting an old password containing a mixture of upper-case letters, lower-case letters and numbers.

Emily spent the afternoon having lunch in Cardiff with her mother and sister and was waiting for a massaman curry.

She shared her birthday with Bruce Lee and Jimi Hendrix, both heroes of her father.

Emily liked music from across several eras, including ABBA and Shania Twain.

Her first spin was ABBA.

Scott strongly encouraged her to trust the result, particularly because she had tickets for ABBA Voyage in December.

Emily accepted the song immediately and requested a birthday balloon.

The ultimate Madonna song

Scott had arrived at Wogan House before 8am to announce Radio 2’s search for the nation’s ultimate Madonna song.

The shortlist covered her UK top-ten singles, leaving more than 60 records for listeners to consider.

People could use all five votes on a single song or divide them among five favourites.

The Music Police

Scott opened a new Music Police investigation for later in the afternoon.

The caller’s evidence was limited and required listeners to begin suggesting possible songs.

Handover

Scott handed over after continuing the orange-peel debate and promoting the Madonna vote.
