Gary Davies for every pub
Scott continued the campaign inspired by Clare Balding’s framed photograph in a Nottingham pub.
He assembled a selection of vintage Gary Davies pictures from the Radio 1 calendar era.
The options included Gary on a jet ski, Gary on a beach surrounded by cocktail glasses, heartthrob Gary and train-guard Gary stepping from a train in double denim.
The White Lion
Karen, landlady of the White Lion near Faversham, chose the beach photograph.
She planned to place it in the side lobby where customers entered from the car park and promised a hanging ceremony.
Karen said she had listened to Gary since his early Radio 1 years.
The Creaky Floorboard
Josephine ran the Creaky Floorboard in Derby from the converted front rooms of her house.
She initially wanted a photograph of Gary with Wham!, but Scott did not have permission to distribute it.
Because Derby was strongly associated with railways and the Industrial Revolution, Josephine selected train-guard Gary.
She promised a gold frame and a central place on the wall.
The Birthday Game: Janice
Janice turned 70 while travelling to the Edinburgh Fringe with the Funky Voices choir.
Around 90 members were meeting in the city to perform.
The group had previously sung with Tony Hadley, Erasure’s Andy Bell and Howard Jones.
Janice also remembered celebrating her 60th birthday with a wing-walking experience, during which nobody had given her ear defenders.
She said she would still recommend it.
Her nephew had performed in Dusted, a Busted tribute act, and knew Charlie Simpson.
The Music Police
Will had heard a song while driving in November but could remember only phrases resembling “we’ve hit the bottom” and “when the sun comes tumbling down”.
Possible answers included the Corrs, Wet Wet Wet and Johnny Cash.
Jeremy Vine had played the correct track at the end of his programme earlier in the week.
The answer was Ben Folds’ Landed.
Will recognised the piano introduction and confirmed the match immediately.
The case was declared closed after months of uncertainty.
Handover
Scott handed over to Sara Cox after promising updates once the Gary Davies pictures were displayed.
