Lewis Capaldi’s emotional video
Scott tested claims that Lewis Capaldi’s latest music video made almost everybody cry.
He asked Sara Cox to watch it at the same time as him.
Sara described herself as somebody who could cry at a butter advert, while Scott said films and music videos rarely affected him.
Listeners sent voice notes after watching, with several reporting full-on crying shortly before work, interviews or the school run.
The Birthday Game: Joanne
Joanne from Northumberland turned 44 and worked as a mobile hairdresser.
Her household included four pugs following an accidental litter. The family still did not know whether Fred or Rocco was the father of the puppies.
Joanne shared her birthday with James Brown, Bing Crosby, Ken Hom, Frankie Valli and Sandi Toksvig.
Her first spin was Westlife’s Swear It Again. Joanne had seen Westlife live but rejected it.
The second was Deniece Williams’ Free. Joanne did not recognise it and gambled again.
Her compulsory final song was KWS’s cover of Please Don’t Go, number one in 1992.
Joanne owned the record and was happy with the final result.
Sam Ryder returns
Sam Ryder joined Scott almost a year after finishing second at Eurovision in Turin.
He deliberately avoided listening to most entries before the contest because he enjoyed hearing them for the first time during the live performances.
Scott played him several 2023 favourites.
Sam enjoyed Finland’s Käärijä and the transition from heavy guitar into a more Basshunter-style dance sound.
He had already spoken with Austria’s Teya about Who the Hell Is Edgar? and admired how openly excited she was about taking part.
They also discussed Ukraine’s entry and the importance of Liverpool hosting on the country’s behalf.
Mountain
Sam confirmed that he would perform his new song Mountain during the Eurovision grand final.
He had written it on his sofa while eating a large sandwich, after it was too late to include it on his album.
Fans had already heard it during his tour, but the Eurovision performance would introduce it to a much wider audience.
Sam sings the menu
Scott wanted to prove that Sam could make anything sound impressive.
His future father-in-law Simon read out the receipt from a recent Indian meal:
– king prawn masala
– lamb tikka bhuna
– two onion bhajis
– one naan
– saag aloo
– a vegetable platter
– chicken vindaloo
Sam transformed the order into a dramatic vocal performance.
Listeners later reported being unable to get the sung menu out of their heads and ordering Indian food themselves.
