Preparing for Shania Twain
Scott was preparing the studio for Shania Twain’s visit the following afternoon.
He had brought air fresheners into work and asked how many plug-ins would be too many.
Listeners who had followed Shania for decades sent messages about concerts, albums and the impact of her music.
Scott also asked to hear from people genuinely named after Shania Twain, warning listeners not to invent stories because he could see their earlier messages.
Celebrity Bake Off line-up
The new Great British Bake Off celebrity line-up included David Schwimmer, Jesy Nelson, Tom Daley, Adele Roberts, Gemma Collins, Paddy McGuinness and Jay Blades.
Scott found the promotional photograph particularly strange because Ross from Friends appeared beside a former member of Little Mix, both wearing aprons.
The series would also contain Matt Lucas’s final appearances in the tent.
Paul’s rice challenge
Scott returned to Paul from Hull, who had never eaten rice.
The plan was now to bring him onto the programme later in the week for his first taste.
Richie Anderson offered encouragement after drinking coffee for the first time in around 25 years and discovering that he both enjoyed it and felt more awake.
The Birthday Game: Sam
Sam from Birmingham turned 51 and was preparing to move towards Worcestershire so she could spend more time walking near the Malvern Hills.
Her 50th birthday party had included a Dolly Parton tribute performer, glitter, rhinestones and cowboy boots.
Sam hoped for an upbeat birthday record and said she liked 1980s and 1990s music, country, Robbie Williams and Michael Bublé.
Her first spin was Wet Wet Wet’s Goodnight Girl. Sam liked the group but rejected the slow song.
The second was Lily Allen’s The Fear. Sam said three was her lucky number and gambled again.
Her compulsory final song was Blondie’s Heart of Glass, number one in 1979.
Sam was delighted and called it more lively than the earlier choices.
The Music Police
Paula’s mystery lyric sounded like: “You don’t know a thing about love.”
Listeners sent numerous possibilities before Scott played a song by the River Detectives.
Paula recognised it immediately and then remembered the group’s name.
The Music Police declared the case solved.
Scott invited listeners to send more voice notes containing the fragments of songs they could not identify.
Handover
Scott handed over to Sara Cox after reminding listeners that Shania Twain would join him the following afternoon.
