Radio 2’s poshest listener
Jilly from London returned after her earlier voice notes about Christmas cake attracted Scott’s attention.
Scott called her Radio 2’s “entry-level Nigella” and suggested she might be the station’s poshest listener.
Jilly greeted him with “Feliz Navidad” and presented another set of tips for Christmas dinner.
The Yorkshire pudding secret
Jilly’s principal advice was to add one extra egg to a normal Yorkshire pudding recipe.
For a recipe normally using three eggs, she recommended using four.
She promised the puddings would rise so high they might hit the roof of the oven.
Scott asked whether frozen Yorkshire puddings would not be easier, but Jilly insisted on the homemade approach.
She also defended serving Yorkshire puddings with Christmas dinner.
Listener reaction
Some listeners found the advice genuinely useful, while others enjoyed Jilly’s grand delivery more than the recipe itself.
Scott continued presenting her as an accidental cooking correspondent who had acquired a regular slot simply by sending a voice note.
Handover
Scott handed over after promising another instalment of A Very Jilly Christmas.
