Radio 1 wanted an Ed Sheeran album party

Ed Sheeran’s new album was arriving the following day.

Scott and Chris tried to create a listener campaign around #SheeranAlbumParty, encouraging people to make Friday’s Radio 1 shows acknowledge it.

The automatic transcript inserts several unrelated presenter names around this section, so the archive does not reproduce them as fact.

The important part was the attempted audience takeover.

Scott and Chris were about to disappear for a week.

They wanted the album party to continue without them.

Muff met its mayoral candidates

The programme then returned to Muff, the village which had become part of the show during the LOLathon road trip.

The outgoing mayor had explained earlier in the month that two people were standing to succeed her.

Scott and Chris now spoke to them.

Carl, around 20, had lived in Muff all his life and could become an unusually young mayor.

Magella had lived there for roughly 25 years and immediately gave Scott the phrase Mayor Magella.

Both spoke warmly about the community.

Magella was asked how she would support older residents.

Carl represented the possibility of a much younger generation taking the role.

The source does not record the eventual election result, so the archive leaves the contest there rather than inventing a winner.

Ryan volunteered for the final conception story

Where Do You Think They Were? was being rested after months of weekly family oversharing.

The final participant of the run was Ryan, 18, from Portsmouth.

His dad Andrew joined.

Ryan’s mum was Ness.

At the time of the story, Andrew was 19 and serving in the Army.

Ness was 24.

Her father was not impressed by the young squaddie dating his daughter.

That disapproval would become crucial.

The Ford Escort went up a country lane

Andrew collected Ness in a Ford Escort and drove to a quiet country lane.

The weather was terrible.

Heavy rain had softened the ground.

Music associated with the period included ATB’s “9 PM (Till I Come)”.

The pair found enough privacy for what they wanted to do.

Then the Ford Escort would not move.

It was stuck.

The romantic escape had turned into a recovery job.

Andrew told the recovery driver too much

Andrew called for breakdown assistance and ran to meet the truck.

He was still a teenage soldier and apparently not inclined to be discreet.

Asked what he had been doing up the lane, Andrew joked that he had been there with a girl and had been “doing bits”.

The recovery driver followed him back towards the car.

Then came the twist.

The local recovery business was connected with Ness’s father.

The man arriving to drag the Ford Escort from the mud was the very future father-in-law who disapproved of Andrew seeing his daughter.

The grandad found them at the scene

Ryan listened as his dad explained the collision between the two worlds.

Andrew had been hiding away with Ness in a country lane.

Now her father was physically recovering their car.

Any attempt to maintain mystery about what they had been doing was gone.

Andrew said the awkwardness with the family took around five years to clear properly.

Scott and Chris thought the story was a fitting end to the current run of Where Do You Think They Were?

The feature had produced planes, boats, bushes and spare rooms.

Its final pre-break story ended with a future grandad arriving in a recovery truck.

The show was off next week

Scott and Chris explicitly told listeners they would be away the following week.

That creates the genuine 15–19 July gap in the supplied archive.

They would return on Monday 22 July with a new kissing game and, almost immediately, another Radio 1 Hide & Seek.
