16 March 2018: Chris Hughes faced a lie detector about Olivia Attwood

Scott and Chris finally tried a spin class

Scott and Chris began Friday by doing something they had never done together before: a spin class.

Chris had expected to hate cycling indoors while going nowhere, but admitted it was much better than expected. The room had disco-style lighting and the exercise was intense enough to make sense once they were actually doing it.

His main error was admitting that he was new. The instructor immediately announced it to the room, got everybody to applaud and kept calling his name during the session.

Maya Jama joined the show and agreed with the basic lesson: never sit in the obvious place or identify yourself as the beginner if you do not want to be picked on.

Chris Hughes explained where he stood with Olivia

Love Island’s Chris Hughes joined amid continuing coverage of his split from Olivia Attwood and their television series *Chris & Olivia: Crackin’ On*.

Chris said he and Olivia were still close and had even watched the programme together. They were not officially back together, but he admitted there was still love between them and described the situation as more complicated than simply being exes.

Scott and Chris decided a voice-based lie detector could settle some of the questions surrounding him.

The lie detector got unexpectedly personal

They began with easier questions and gradually moved towards his relationships.

One revelation came when Chris was asked whether he had read his own book. He admitted he had not read the finished thing from beginning to end, although he had contributed to it and had certainly looked at the pictures.

Asked whether he would get with somebody else from *Love Island*, he said no. Asked whether he was currently “on the pull”, he again said no, although the machine created enough uncertainty for Scott and Chris to keep interrogating him.

The key question was whether the breakup with Olivia had been genuine or manufactured to attract viewers to their television show. Chris insisted it was real and the test ultimately backed him up.

Greg reached the top of Ben Nevis

The lie-detector session was interrupted by genuinely big news from the Gregathlon.

Greg James had reached the summit of Ben Nevis, completing the final mountain of his restarted Pedal to the Peaks challenge.

He was exhausted and aching and still had to get back down, but the climb meant he had finally finished the part of the challenge that the snow had prevented him completing earlier in the month.

Scott gave him a new fundraising total of £859,331 for Sport Relief and made one final appeal for listeners to donate while Greg was still on the mountain.

Everybody admitted their embarrassing phases

A conversation about teenage phases produced one of Maya’s more revealing stories.

A listener described trying to become Mutya Buena from the Sugababes, dying her naturally blonde hair black, getting her lip pierced and copying the jewellery and styling.

Maya admitted she had gone through an Avril Lavigne phase. She wore flared trousers, a chain hanging from them and fishnet-style sleeves, and even bought herself a pink skateboard.

The skateboard was largely a prop. Maya carried it under her arm to school so she could look like a skater, despite never actually learning to ride it.

The discussion ended with the studio enthusiastically singing along to Avril’s “I’m With You”.

Scott declined Naked Attraction

Before the chart, Scott had one announcement for the makers of *Naked Attraction*.

He thanked them for offering him a place on a celebrity edition, then immediately declined.

Maya was astonished he had even been asked, but Scott had no intention of standing behind one of the programme’s screens while it gradually lifted from the feet upwards. He noted that Jamie Laing, Louis Walsh and Lauren Pope had also reportedly turned it down, which he considered excellent company.
