5 September 2017: The Script had ten seconds to name their exes

Gabrielle Aplin returned as Tune of the Week

Gabrielle Aplin visited after Scott and Chris had chosen “Waking Up Slow” as their Tune of the Week. They looked back at her early appearances on the programme in 2012, when Scott had become obsessed with inventing terrible puns and nicknames around her surname.

The archive produced examples including “Gabel Do”, “Golden Gabel” and other increasingly strained variations. Gabrielle had endured them at the time and was now back several years later with another song Scott and Chris were enthusiastically supporting.

The Script faced the exes challenge

The Script came in after their Live Lounge appearance and the conversation naturally turned to break-up songs. Scott and Chris challenged the band to name as many former partners as possible in ten seconds.

The result was frantic, slightly confused and included Angie being named more than once. One of the names also prompted Scott to immediately make a joke about how it sounded, ensuring the challenge became much more awkward than a straightforward memory test.

The band were also asked about the personal stories behind songs and how much real-life relationship material eventually found its way into their music.

Listeners admitted mugging off their mates

The show continued a discussion about the occasions when people had selfishly abandoned friends for a better offer. Listeners supplied stories of ditching lifts, changing plans at the last moment and prioritising dates or nights out over people who had already made arrangements around them.
