The morning after the NTAs
Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield opened This Morning in the clothes they had worn to the National Television Awards. They repeatedly apologised for their condition, discussed stains on Holly’s dress and tried to explain an after-party involving Ant and Dec, sausages and the game Pie Face.
Scott and Chris enjoyed watching two highly experienced presenters attempt live television while tired and emotional. They wondered whether the pair had genuinely remained out all night or gone home and deliberately put the same clothes back on for the performance.
A wink and a rub
Tom reported back from his night as a seat filler. As soon as celebrities left their chairs, he was moved into the gaps and at one point remained in David Walliams’s place for a substantial part of the ceremony.
The important evidence came when Peter Kay rose to receive an award. Visible over Peter’s shoulder, Tom celebrated, looked towards the camera, delivered the requested wink and rubbed his ear. His cousin captured the moment, allowing Scott and Chris to publish proof that he had completed the mission.
Tom said sitting among the winners made him feel as though he were part of their programmes and achievements. He saw an array of television figures, discovered that an actor from EastEnders was wearing the same jacket and returned to university with everybody asking whether he had seen Holly Willoughby.
The programme also found a contender for the worst contestant ever to appear on The Chase and returned to the new Scott Mills Bridge, where listeners were already sending photographs and questioning whether Scott had become responsible for its upkeep.
