Scott returns from Dubai
Scott came back from a short Dubai break less than a day after riding a camel. The transition from a beach to a cold Radio 1 studio felt severe, although Chris was less impressed when Scott admitted that his online camel photograph had actually come from the hotel’s account.
The previous night’s X Factor supplied another mystery. Scott was fascinated by Fifth Harmony’s brief “no way” vocal during a group performance and repeatedly tried to reproduce the exact sound.
A Secret Santa gift finds its proper owner
Scott had received instant Irish accent spray in a £10 Secret Santa exchange. He decided that Chris, who already believed himself capable of accents, was the person who really needed to test it.
Chris sprayed far more than instructed and launched into an exaggerated new voice. Scott presented the transformation as astonishing proof that the product worked, while messages warned that the entire bottle might leave him permanently altered.
The minty effect eventually faded. Both agreed that anybody else owning the novelty product should avoid Chris’s method.
Transfer deadline anxiety begins
With two days until the relationship transfer window closed, one caller admitted that his girlfriend had been discussing the feature and might be preparing to leave him. Scott advised him to produce a strong final performance rather than demand reassurance.
Listeners who had previously been dumped at Christmas were invited to contribute evidence. The show promised reporters on the ground, experts in the studio and even aerial coverage when the deadline arrived at 3pm on Wednesday.
Eight films and two huge Bingo bookings
Greg James played Real or No Real. A claim that Michael Owen had watched only eight films sounded impossible, but Owen’s own list made it true: it included Rocky, Heat, Jurassic Park, The Karate Kid, Forrest Gump, Cool Runnings and Seabiscuit.
Chris then received the news that made his week. Gino D’Acampo would play Innuendo Bingo the next afternoon, followed by EastEnders actor Jake Wood on Thursday. He began treating the run as an event worth recording in a diary.
