The most elaborate setup
Two weeks after the unexplained incident, Scott finally played the interview that had left Chris shaking. The show had spent months arranging for Jennifer Aniston to become the worst interviewee Chris had ever faced while promoting Horrible Bosses 2.
Chris had previously charmed Mila Kunis and Aniston with awkward questions about football, friends and pubs. Scott wanted to discover what happened when a star did not help him. He secretly met Aniston in the room next door, explained the cue and asked her to make the exchange as uncomfortable as possible.
Aniston agreed immediately. Chris arrived believing this would be another friendly reunion, while Scott hid first next door and then in the corridor outside.
A question changes everything
The conversation began warmly. Aniston remembered Chris and discussed how far the film had taken her character. The agreed trigger was a question about how somebody as famous as her made the first move with a man.
She paused, described it as extremely inappropriate and reminded him that she was committed to somebody. Chris tried to explain that he meant the beginning of relationships rather than approaching strangers, then blamed a supposed Radio 1 documentary about famous people in love.
The silences grew longer. Chris apologised repeatedly, abandoned the question and moved to erotic fiction and Fifty Shades of Grey, only to receive more short answers. The harder he tried to rescue the interview, the more convincing Aniston’s discomfort became.
Scott enters the room
Scott eventually walked in and revealed the prank. Chris dropped his microphone, his shoulders relaxed and Aniston immediately hugged him. She apologised for the performance and asked for a tissue because he looked overwhelmed.
Watching it back was worse than Chris remembered. Listeners described pausing work, sitting in parked cars and physically cringing. Scott accepted that he had been unusually cruel but admired Aniston’s acting and Chris’s refusal to become rude even when he thought the interview had collapsed.
The film went online and spread internationally within hours. Chris promised that revenge would arrive when Scott had forgotten to expect it.
Winter bulking and forced antlers
With one month until Christmas, Scott announced that December would bring “winter bulking”: cream, mince pies, festive bakes, cheese and heavy lunches every day. A listener who shared a nightly cheese board with her housemates had already begun when the clocks changed.
The show also heard from retail workers required to wear antlers and Santa hats in November. Scott supported Christmas excess but thought compulsory apparatus should wait until December.
Charlie Sloth joined Real or No Real. His attempt to pronounce Chipotle became more difficult than any of the facts, but he correctly identified the Eiffel Tower’s First World War use involving parrots as a true story.
